Best Budget System......

I have a coworker who is looking for a new complete 5.1 system and a reciever. He has a very tight budget of about $700 for the entire system. Anybody have some suggestions. This will be going in a family room type set up. Not sure of the room dimensions, however with the small budget it will likely not matter much because he will be constricted to relatively small speakers.

Thx

He can still find a decent system for $700. Here's a few:

Ascend Acoustics:
5 x HTM200SE = $508 shipped (free shipping and package deal for the holidays)

Orb Audio:
5 x Mod 1 Satellites = $529 + shipping ($9 usually)

Av123:
Tons of deals going on right now. Check their sight out.

Mirage:
5 x Nanosats = $249 shipped at Vann's

Add a Dayton Sub (or used x-sub or STF-1) to the above and you're good to go.

Oops! Just saw you said receiver too. In that case:

Receiver: Pioneer 918/Yamaha 463 = $249 or less (Various online retailers)
Speakers: Mirage 5.0 Nanosats = $249 (Vann's) or Mission m70 cinema 5.0 = $239 + shipping (www.tsto.com)
Sub: Dayton SUB-100, used Av123 X-Sub, or used HSU STF-1

Look into the Onkyo HT-S6100 or 7100 for a quick and easy solution. Might be had for a good deal, and the receiver could be used in the future if he ditches the speakers.

Be warned, it runs HOT. Ventilation is key with that thing.
