Hi,

I'm new here.
I'm looking for 2 best tower speakers for < $1000 for now. I plan to upgrade to 5.1 system later on.

But 2 front speakers for now.

Any help will be much appreciated.

Two more I will suggest that you addition:

The RBH TK-5CT if you can find them or the equivalent EMP is one nice set to consider.

Another one is the BG Radia Z-7 floorstander.

One that's up to you for the sake of being thorough...

Personally, I don't like most Polks. However, you can often find good deals on the discontinued Rti12's. They're bi-ampable if that's something that interests you.

Fry's carries Polks, but I doubt you will find one with any Rti12's left as they blew most of those out in sales last year.

There is no top 5. You will see a few repeats of brands. However, it's very subjective. Some prefer Def Tech's and Klipsch's. Others prefer AV123, RBH, Infinity, etc. I would suggest you go to various big box stores, audio dealers, etc. with your favorite recordings and listen. No, there will be some differences due to the audio processing and amplification (receiver) as well as some due to the different rooms. However, if you give it time you will notice a certain character/flavor with the audio with each audition.

When I first started shopping I had wood for RBH and AV123 because of the recommendations on this site. I later settled on Infinity due to budget, circumstances and general satisfaction with the product. (One major circumstance with the RBH and BG Radia is that I couldn't stand the reseller.) We cannot stress this enough--listen, listen, listen and audition. There is no joy in throwing away $1k. It is only money, but that money is wonderful when spent on something you want and love rather. However, it is terrible when that money is wasted when it could've gone to charity or something else that brought you joy.

Audition a lot of different speakers and see what your ears like. Find out what suits your tastes/references.

Also, a few questions.

Is this system more for music or movies? Split 50/50 music and movies?

How large is the room where the system will reside (dimensions)?

What amplifier or Receiver will you be using to drive these speakers?

Try:

NHT
PSB
Paradigm
AV123
Axiom Audio
RBH
Jamo
Aperion
Boston Acoustics
JBL
Polk
Infinity
SWAN
Klipsch
Cambridge Sound Works

Almost every one makes a good tower set for ~$1K

If you don't mind getting a screw driver out:

www.madisound.com they have some really amazing kits...

Try PSB

I just bought a pair of PSB T55 floorstanders and they sound as good in my living room as they did in the listening room at the dealer which was acoustically perfect. I was looking for a set of mains with enough LFR so I did not have to use my sub while listening to music and I am blown away by the T55's. I was originally looking at the T45's but glad I stepped up to the 55's because they are quite a bit better. I think I got a good deal at Saturday Audio here in Chicago as I paid $700 for the pair in Siena finish. They are selling the maples for $600 since it appears that none of the speaker makers Maple lines are moving.
I compared them to simliar priced Monitor Audio's, KEF's and Klipsch towers and my preference was the PSB product with the KEFIQ5 probably next in line.
One thing that I now realize since I now have pretty good sound quality is that listening off my IPOD through my system sounds terrible compared to direct from the CD, I knew there was a difference but had no idea how much.

Now i have to figure out how to store CD's in a lesser compression to see if that helps much.

Today I listened a pair of Tannoy Revolution DC6 T. Don't know the price in the USA.
