Both S30 and Wharfedale. Would be on my short list. There are plenty of decent at your price point

Never heard about Gale, but Tannoy is solid brand..
It will have to come down to which one you like sound wise. If you are forced to buy blindly - I'd go with S30 .. Also make sure the store has decent return policy and possibly buy several :)

Tannoy is rock solid. As is Wharfedale. Two old and highly respected speaker companies. I'd narrow it down to those two, personally.

I wouldn't disregard Cambridge Audio this quickly... Imo it should stay on the short list. S30 has been reviewed many many times with very positive results

Yeah, that's fair enough. They're known to build some pretty quality stuff in that price range.

Really don't know, is the Wharfedale worth it over CA? I might go and test them out in Richer Sounds this weekend.

You should ALWAYS test something out in person if you have the means to do so.

I'd toss those Acoustic Energy speakers into the mix. I've heard a lot of positive things about the company, though I have never heard any of their speakers. Bring your own test tracks if they'll let you.

Yeah I don't see why they wouldn't. Thanks.

I live over 2 hours away, doubt my mum would drive all that way considering I've never even heard them :(
I would just buy the Mordaunt Short - it is higher-end > a serious good price

The S30 will be low-end compared to the Mezzo

Cambridge and Mordaunt Short are from the same company
