Best 8 ohm inwall speakers

I've gone through all the threads and have researched the companies recommended for inwall's. Most, if not all, are 4 ohm speakers. I would like to stick to 8 ohm speakers and push them with my HK 445.

I currently have the Boston DSi260's in the L/R and center positions. They sound great but I'm looking for a little more and I'm willing to pay more now.

I am looking at the Boston DSi453, Polk TC265i or the Speaker Craft AIM LCR 3. I am leaning toward the Polk for all three locations because of the 6 1/2" cones, they should sound richer, at least based on the frequency specs.

Thoughts or opinions please.

Well,... if you're "willing to pay more now" and want better in-walls, look into James Loudspeakers and RBH Sound. The majority of both companies in-walls are 8 ohm.

Thanks Guys.

The James and RBH speakers look great. James didnt have anything with a 5 or 6" cone with 8 ohms. RBH, the same, all the 616 series were 6 ohms.

I've never heard of Deff Tech. I thought they were one of those low cost speaker compies that come up when you google "in wall speakers". How good is the quality?

What are your thoughts on the Polk speakers. Have you seen any feedback, positive or negative on them?

Thanks again.

WOW, now those look nice.
I use MB Quart. They are top quality speakers. For years, they have been the first choice for car audio enthusiast. I learned of their quality in my car audio days. Now, 15 years later, I am pleased to be using them in my HT. Superb!;)

i have used both polk and deftech. right now i have a set of def tech bookshelf's and i really like them. i have also used a set of polk towers and i was really happy with them too. the polk's had a silk tweeter whine the def's have an aluminium one. personaly i prefer a silk tweet over a metal one, but i enjoy the def's quite a bit. the def's have a 6.5" woofer and it is plenty for my living room. the polk's had 2 powered 8" subs in each tower, so i'm not sure how much of a comparision they will be.

Look into www.emphasysav.com as well. They have 8 ohm in-walls that are superb for the money. Internet Explorer works best for the site. Be sure to use full screen view mode (F11).

Thanks again everyone. I guess there are more choices than I thought.

Of all the choices, I find myself looking at the Speakercraft Cinema line. Good company name and the speakers look as if they might give a good broad range just due to the amount of speakers.

There aren’t any reviews of these speakers though. Has anyone heard feedback?

Speaker Options

Your HK receiver should be fine with 6 ohm speakers, but like you sugest, 4 ohms may require an external amp.

Yea, I want to make this easy. An amp would be nice but just adds complexity.

Any feedback on the Speakercraft Cinema line. They look impressive and they are 8 ohms.

Maybe check out the Joseph Audio Insider. I'm not sure of specs, but their speakers generally don't dip below 6 or 7 Ohms.

Well, I bought the Speakercraft Cinema One's for the LRC locations.

There doesn't seem to be much, if any, review of these speakers so I hope this helps someone.

The build quality is excellent. You can tell attention is given to detail.

Installation is easy. I had holes and wire already there from my Boston Acoustic DSi 260's, so that made it easier. You can angle the mid-high range speakers toward the listening area. Awesome advantage, since they are in-walls.

The sound quality is amazing. They will break in over time, but the initial sound quality is great. They truly give the (full) sound quality you would expect from tower speakers. The Boston's were great speakers but lacked in the mid to low range and had to rely on the sub. With these, the sub is basically backup for a richer sound experience.

For the price, trust me, I've researched this, you can't do much better.;) The only thing you have to check is the room on the wall. They are large (long) but have to be to accommodate the 4 speakers.

Hope this helps someone.

Just remember

Speakercraft is an in-wall, in-ceiling speaker company. Not a speaker company that has an in-wall, in-ceiling series.

True. I guess when I said "full" I meant in sound range, not quality. Towers, being engineered enclosures, would sound better probably, but these sound pretty good.

There is one thing I've notice though. My rear in ceilings have come to life after installing the new fronts. I set the woofers on the front to 6 ohm (after researching it wont harm the HK 445), don't know if this has anything to do with it, I don't think it does.

I'd be disappointed if they didn't sound great. Where'd you buy them and what did they cost?
