Best 7.1 surround system for $1000 or less

Please help out with suggestions for what you think would be the best 7.1 surround system for $1000 or under keep in mind 7 speakers, yes it is asking alot, just want to know what is out there?

It's not asking a whole lot. Just depends on the quality you want.

I suggest you start with an Onkyo 606 and add 4 Kef 2001.2s and a pair of Infinity Beta 20s plus a Beta 250 center

Throw in a Dayton 12 inch and you have a complete budget system. For a veyr good price.

This is very similar to what I have and I love it. It beats most systems I have seen in normal folks houses.

Another option is to get the 7.1 emp package from audioholics and pair it with a 606. In fact I think you should simply go that route. Go do it. It's a great deal and will more than meet your needs.

Thanks, guess I was not clear the $1000 is just for the 7.1 system speakers have $1000 budgeted for the receiver if I spend less it will not go to the speakers, so two front, one center, two half way back, and two in the rear. I left out the fact that I already have a Yamaha self powered sub.

Unless you positively know that a 7.1 system will make you happier than a 5.1 system, (and you beleive your room can be configured well enough to take advantage of these two extra channels) it might be a better idea to consider splitting your $1000 budget among 5 speaks instead of seven.

In my personal experience, I wasn't willing to "divide" my small budget even by five ways and instead am enjoying a very nice 2.1 system. Granted - I'm obviously missing some of the HT effects - but I can later built on the 2.1 system - just like you could build a 5.1 to a 7.1 should you feel you do end up missing those channels.

For example: You could just squeak a 5.1 (minus the sub which you already have) system out of axiomaudio.com for just about a grand provided your room wasn't too big - but I'm sure you couldn't go with them for a 7.1 system on that budget. So stepping back to 5 speakers opens up many other options and lots of great manufactures for you to consider.

I'd also start with a 5.1 system unless you really have a need for 7.1. It will save you a few bucks or get you more for that same money. That looks to be a pretty amazing setup for just over your budget at $1100, plus you get one heck of a sub especially compared to your current one.

Guys, I have to agree $1431.04 including shipping for the SB's and 12" sub I did some figuring and just to have (5) BIC America DV-62CLRS, and (2) DV52si and have them modified by Ed it would cost me $800 plus $599 for the 12" sub and I am at $1500. Well it dosent take a smart person to choose hummm SVS

If you re-read my response and Scott's you will see why more than one of us recommended a 5.1 system to start with. Unless your room is quite large, and is also ideal for a proper setup, you probably don't need 7.1. By trying to get more speakers in your budget, you will end up getting somewhat lesser speakers instead of starting with a good base system. You can always add the other two speakers down the road.

I was looking for a 5.1 for around $1000. I ended up choosing to get a good pair of fronts for around that and add the rest as I went along.

People are giving opinions based on their experiences as they feel led to help out. Nobody is telling you what YOU should do.
