I am looking to buy a 50-52in DLP.

I am looking to spend between $1000 - $1600.

It is to be used mainly for HDTV - HD-DVR from Charter via DVI-HDMI connection, with maybe some DVD Movie playback.

I was looking at Samsung, Panasonic and Mitsubishi. However I do not know which is known for reliability and or the best picture quality/features.

Any feedback/help would be welcome.

Thanks.

Personally I would have taken a Samsung, Pansonic, or Mitsubishi over the Sony. I am working for a local dealer delivering and picking up products for repair. I've been working there for a week now. Every single product that has been in for repair has been a Sony (about 10-15 in one week) and most are less than a year or two old. I'd say probably 95% of the products in the repair bay are Sony. Other brands have much better quality.

It eneded up looking better with a live HD feed compaired to the samsung. ( the only other 50in hd tv) and I got a fairly good price.

What type of problems are the sonys known for?

That sony isn't a dlp but lcd RP. Some shops push certain mfg's more then others and therefore, set up to sell. Dlp is not considered as bright as lcd RP so they seem brighter in some stores with light issues.
