1 BIC DV62clr center 100
4 Bic DV62si bookshelves 220

This is the closest you are going to get with any type of sound quality. Actually the DV62's sound as good as a lot of floorstanders.

Another helpful post by our self proclaimed expert Mark.

Seriously, though, you will need to find some sales.

polk R15's, on sale were $49/pr
polk CSi25 - $69
Dayton 10" sub $125

Total - about $295

..you would tell him where he could find these items at these prices.

Is this the sub you're talking about? http://www.************.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?DID=7&PartNumber=300-632

(oops.. I can't say parts express, can I?) hint.. take out the space when replacing the asterisks

So, you call these "full sized"?

Go with the Venturi's and hold off on the sub. You won't want to skimp on a sub once you hear the Bic's. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.

i little more info

thanks for the help guys but when i say full size i don't mean giant speakers or towers; i mean reasonably sized speakers (2 way preferably and wood finish) i don't want to bounce around 50 different companies(besides i want them to be matched since they sound better when they are) I heard of a company called Fluancewww.fluance.com what do you guys think although they sell front tower speakers.

You can get the Athena Micra 6 system for $298 at onecall.com. Audioholics recommends it, and has a detailed review, for the $1000 recommended system.

My thought would be to take your time & look for used, local speakers. Is your city, or one near you, part of craigslist? Besides the Electronics section of your paper's classifides, you could also look for Estate Sales.

Onix X-LS

Buy a pair of the Onix X-LS bookshelf speakers for $200. When you have more money, add another pair and center channel ($300) and the x-sub ($200). I think that a pair of these will sound better then any 5.1 setup in your price range.

What, what, what? - fine for PC, but not HT. I'm not a big fan of muddy bass and rolled off highs. I've never heard a Logitech Z setup I've liked - maybe it's been the source material.

How many HTIB's and speaker packages will hit upwards of 100dB's? With a litle EQing these speakers sound damn nice for the money.

Also, using this method he can save on a receiver.

I think there were some better suggestions made. I can vouch for the BIC's. You may be happy with the Fluance, but at their price, they just sound too good to be true. I've never heard them, so there goes my credibility. Maybe you should check out this thread.

Member Brian32672 has fluance speakers can he says they sound very good. Comparable to BIC's.

Sheep, I was refering to the BIC Americas, not the Acoustech. The Fluance may sound better than all BIC's, I'm not sure. Like I said, I've never heard the Fluance or the Acoustechs for that matter, and apparently you've heard none of the three.:p I'm just skeptical at their price point for a 5.1 package that includes floorstanding speakers, that's all.

Now go drink a green beer or something:D

I've owned the Fluance av-htb system and for the 160$ I payed for it on ebay it was a decent system. The towers are the saving grace of that package. It sounded a little better then the onkyo htr500 (old version of the s780).

If I were you I would head over to av123.com and pick up 3 x-ls monitors (340$ish shipped) for your front 3 speakers and then find some cheesy surrounds for cheap. Then once you save up some more, find a good sub and better surrounds. Also you can find some good deals on used equipment @ audiogon. Some used ascend 170s go for about 200-225 a pair.
