As a newbie to this forum, but studying the satellite forums for years I know this question has been asked repeatedly! Knowing my system does not really compare to your systems, its more difficult to ask.. but anyway...

Yamaha receiver 120 watt/ channell avr 2400 (3 zones) (5.1 system) with infitinity ar 50 towers that consume lots of watts (rated 200 watts) but have lots of base, with a velodyne 15 inch subwoofer in a large living room (15 by 34 ft).

What reasonably priced 2 channel amp without a volume control will help boost my wattage for the towers - so far the best value (emotiva rpa2) is not out yet- what do you recommend now?

Can i find a decent amp now for the 200 watts per channel (2 channel) & not sacrifice performance without replacing amp or speakers!

Why do you think you need more power? Are you lacking something with what you have? Maybe you really don't need more power just think this because of that 200 watts max power rating?
That doesn't mean it is drawing or trying to draw that power from your Yamaha.

Speaker power depends on a few criteria:
Listening distance to speakers; listening volume habits; speakers impedance and in room sensitivity are the major ones.
Maybe you have plenty of power. Maybe that speaker is 8 ohms and perhaps 94dB sensitive in room?
Sometimes, perceptions can be misleading. :D

But, if you really need such high power, maybe an Emotiva will help you consume the same amount as you are now, but without worrying. :D

Hey Sammy1, and welcome!

Just so you know, this is the "everything sounds the same" and "Emotiva rules" forum. That said, there are lots of good amps out there.

Have you considered going used? I have done so myself, many times, and highly recommend it.

Anthem @ $850

Halo A23 @ $550

and so on. Looks like there are bunch out there that are more expensive, but there is frequently a good mix.

Good luck!

Emotiva RPA-1 is a fantastic 200 watt, 2 channel amp. Or the new XPA-2 for 250 watts per channel.

http://www.emotiva.com/
Yeah, definitely get the XPA-2!

Excellent Emotiva build quality.
Excellent Service and 5 year parts and labor warranty.

Can you guys believe that Mark Levinson only offers a 5 year parts and labor on their products?

I mean for $24,000 amps and preamps, I would think they'd offer a lifetime warranty or something.

Amp upgrade?

You might check your configuration and receiver setup before investing in an amp. For example the SMALL/LARGE and crossover settings for the mains make a big difference on the power requirments for the receiver and it sounds like you have a very capable subwoofer.

If you want to experiment with an amp, you could get a Behringer A500 for <$200. It delivers over 200 Watts/channel into 4 ohms but lacks some conveniences like RCA inputs and triggered power on.

If you want to spend about $800, you might as well get the Emptiva XPA-5 which will deliver 200 Watts into all 5 of your HT speakers.

How does this relate, in any way, to the OP's question, or the topic at hand?

The amplifiers suggested are good units. But if you want an even better/more powerful device for a lower price, get a professional audio amplifier.

The Behringer EP2500 will output a super-clean 450 measured watts into 8 ohms, or over 1100 super-clean watts into 2 ohms, with a measured SNR of 109dB. In addition, the unit uses high quality parts and has very durable build(it's designed for constant movement from place to place). Shipped price is $350.

The single down side is that it's fan cooled. The fan might be audible in your installation. The good news is their is a drop in replacement fan for $8 that is silent if you can hear the stock fan in your installation.

I am just surprised that Behringer would not have put such a fan in there in the first place although I could understand that their primary market is not home installs where ambient noise would make their fan distracting at times.

Rotel, Parasound, Adcom, 2 Outlaw Audio monoblocks, Sunfire, will all get you where you want to be.

If you don't want to purchase new, check out Audiogon for the above brands.

It doesnt have to relate, people can just talk.
How does it relate?

Best Amp = HIGH QUALITY
Mark Levinson = HIGH QUALITY = 5 years warranty

Emotiva = HIGH QUALITY = 5 years warranty.

So, Greg, you working this weekend @ the hospital?

I'm off this weekend, but I'm working next weekend.:(

How's the wife and kids?

How's the dog?:D

I'm going to have to buy a Lexus just to get a Mark Levinson system!

I bought new tires 3 weeks ago.

I have 3 days off starting today.

I dont have kids but the wife and dogs are good.

Both of my cars have Bose in them. The 10'' Bose sub in my Z only works when the temp outside is greater than 75 degrees, must be a wiring issue.

I really like my Emo amp and think everyone would be happy with one.

OttoMatic started this new tires post, but did you buy your tires from tires.com in Dallas? I've bought all my Yokohama tires from them and ship to my house.

Oh, and while we're at, I just got 2 new windshields; $220 for Lexus sedan, $195 for Honda van.

My LS400 has the Nakamichi system, but I think my Oddessey just has some generic brand equivalent Bose-like system.

Yeah, I really like both of my Emo MPS2 amps.

I'm actually not using one of my MPS2 amps right now so I'm just using it to bench press.:D

So, Sammy1, welcome to the "Emotiva Forum" where every thread pushes Emotiva, and then degenerates into a bunch of giggling...

Well, all the amps mentioned are great - Anthem, Parasound, Sunfire, Adcom, Outlaw, Emotiva, etc.

But bang for the buck for a full 5 years parts and labor warranty, you just can't beat the Emotiva XPA-5 or XPA-2 for only $800 each. The sound quality is excellent. The build quality is excellent.

Sure, any of these amps (and a lot others) are great. But the prices may be higher and you definitely won't get the 5 years warranty if you buy a used amp.
