Best $100-200 Receiver for Infinity Primus 162's

This is similar to a thread I already started, however I now have speakers. I will be using a pair of Infinity Primus 162's with an older Pioneer CD player. I am just wondering what the best receiver to get in this range would be. It is pretty much between an Onkyo or Sherwood at this point. I would prefer to buy new because Ebay and other local sources seem to be too unreliable (would like to get this within the next week). Does anyone else that has these speakers have any suggestions? I am thinking to go for 5.1 for now, in case I decide to update, but I guess a good stereo receiver would be good too. Thanks in advance.

I have a rebadged Sherwood stereo receiver that works great. The Insignia NS-R5100 is a rebadged Sherwood receiver.

I am still really undecided. So many different models to look at. I really just like something that would sound good with the Infinities for now. I think a 5.1 receiver would be best for now (won't be outdated if I want to updgrade like a stereo one would be). Would I be better off with more watts per channel? The Marantz only has 60 (opposed to 75-100 for most other units). Would this result in a noticable change in sound?

I wouldn't worry about the Marantz's modest 60wpc rating, it's more in line with what the so-called "100x7" receivers one normally sees at this price point can actually squeeze out when running in stereo with a real loudspeaker load. Marantz is just being more honest than average. I always laugh when I see a receiver claming "700 watts!" on the poop sheet when the max power consumption is 360 watts and there's a dinky transformer under the hood.

You won't have a problem running the Primus series speakers with that Marantz, they're pretty efficient loudspeakers. Grab that puppy while it's still there, I'd say.

Ok here is what I am likely going for. I can get a Yamaha RX-V361 from a local store for $170, which seems to be a good price for a new unit. It has everything I need (2 opticals, 5.1, should be good for a few years for my needs). However, I just want to make sure the pairing will be ok. I have heard that the Yamaha Receivers can be a bit bright, I just want to make sure this pairing will sound ok with the Infiniti's and will not be overly bright. Can anyone comment on this?

I think you'll be in good shape. Yamahas are only bright if you turn the treble up. :) Their freq. response otherwise is as flat as the rest of them, there's no technically-valid reason for one receiver with a flat response to sound "brighter" than another one with a flat response, and double-blind tests of amplifiers repeatedly bear this out.

Yamahas are always a good bet, they're reliable and well-featured for the money. Hard to go wrong with 'em.

I just wanted to thank everyone. Went for the Yamaha RX-V361 today. Was able to locally pick one up for $180. Paired with the Infiniti's, it sounds great so far. Need to work with positions and find a good way to mount the one speaker on the wall (the other is on a shelf). The problem is the awkwardness of my room. The speakers are about 6 feet apart and about 6 feet from my couch. I will have to play with positions a bit I guess.
