About a year and a half ago my EP4000 had accidentally been left on for a few days and blew up. I had replaced the fan so I didn't think they would repair it under warranty so I had it fixed at a local stereo repair shop. Cost about $200!!! Well the damn thing has blown up again. I'm not gonna fix it this time and I think I'm done with Behringer.

What's out there from other pro or consumer manufacturers that is comparable that doesn't cost $1,000?

All I will be using it for is to drive my 15" sub with PR's.

I recoed the HSU amp to another member yesterday, its a good buy $500 watts for $300 in their clearance center... The pro audio stuff is a tough unit to live with in a home sometimes, its just the nature of the beast...

The HSU does look good, but only 500 watts??? Not sure if that's gonna cut it.

I think I may get the Dayton SA1000 from Amazon for $420.

I know this is sounds crazy and insufficient power for subs, but if I were buying a "cheap" amp for my passive sub, but want something very high quality that could last 30 years, I would get the ATI AT1202 amp for $680 shipped new (dealer) or b-stock for $600 + s/h on CAP. It is rated for 180W into 4 ohm @ 0.03% THD, so 1% THD would be closer to 300W, which to me is more than enough. :D

It does have 12V trigger and gain/volume control for each of the Ch.

And it is ATI - the company that makes amps for Mark Levinson, Lexicon, Theta Digital, Cary Audio. :D

Should last you 30 years. :D

Then there's the Crown XLS2500 for about $540. More than I was looking to spend but I'm sure I've spent way more than that with having the Behringer repaired.

The SA1000 1000W amp does look nice. I have the SA230 (only 230W :D), but it's good enough to power my 4 Velodyne amps in series. :D :D

The SA1000 is much nicer, though.

SA1000 is technically 500W too (@8ohms). 946 @ 4 Ohms. Is the sub 4Ohms or 8? I like those component amps but would probably say the Crown would meet your needs, but the SA probably would too.
