if the amp/fan is not gonna be audible from the listening position, i guess that would be ok.

but i don't see a need to bump up CFM, it already runs continuously - i dont think any more cooling is necessary.

If anyone has a fan or two extra that they are not using, IM me. I would like to buy one.

you are gonna cut this wire ...

the one that says vw-1to.
Hey Mike,

I just got an EP2000 and wanted to do the fan mod. I've got the fan from Digikey, but I'm confused on how you did the connections. Looking at the pic above, it looks like the stock Behringer fan has 2 black wires, but the Digikey fan only has one. Which black wire did you discard? I assume that one of the black wires controls fan speed. So does this mean that the new fan only turns at one speed?

what matt said. the wire that says vw-1 (2 wire) is the one we're touching.

but yes, old and new fans are one speed fans.

Thanks guys, I realized that after I saw Mike's response. What a dummy.

Anyway, I did the swap last night. I gotta add that there was a little black ground wire on mine that must have been attached to the chassis somewhere when I took the cover off. Luckily I noticed the little black wire not connected to anything when I was putting the amp back together. I had no idea where to re-connect it, but it didn't seem like you could attach it to any of the screws that hold the cover on, because of course you have to put the cover back on BEFORE you can start putting the screws back in. So I connected it to the "shroud" that goes between the fan and the heat sink tunnel.

Needless to say this was not correct. When I tried plugging in the amp to test the new fan, I got a cool shot of sparks coming out of the new fan. I completely killed the poor little thing. Luckily, I had bought 2 fans, just in case. So when I connected the second new fan, I sandwiched the ground wire between the top cover and back panel of the amp and held it in place while I screwed that panel together.

This time when I turned the amp on, I got a nice quiet fan. I haven't hooked the amp up to any speakers yet, so hopefully I didn't fry anything in the amp when I improperly grounded it. But at least the fan's quiet now.

The little ground wire on mine is where the yellow wire with the spade connector connects to the circuit board in this picture. I don't see this little ground wire on Mike's amp. Maybe mine is just different?

I think it's pretty funny that the board on mine still says "EP 1500".
