Regarding the Behringer Truth 2030A and 2031A.

The Behringer 2031Ps are extremely impressive for their price. In theory, the active version offers significant advantages over the passive version.

I know these Behringer active monitors have a bad reputation for amplifier problems. However, everything I have read about the amp problems is hearsay.
I wonder how frequent these issues really are and is it possible that Behringer has corrected these problems.

So, does anyone here either have first hand or at least read a first hand account of someone who has had problems and do you know when the speakers were bought?

One problem with forums is one or two people who are vocal can have a very lasting influence on the perception of a product (good or bad).
I'm not saying it is wrong for people to be vocal about good or bad experiences (I think people should be!) - just that the result may be a proportionately few problems influencing the perception of all production.

I'd welcome any discussion about this!

Thanks,
Kurt

Do you own either of these?

Yes, I have a pair of the B2031P's and I'm considering buying the 2031A's for an inexpensive direct comparison of active to passive. The interesting thing is that the 2031P's exhibit many of the attributes I associate with active speakers!
Are you going somewhere with this?

Sorry for small offtopic, but my work speakers - Behringer MS16 are active and technically are monitors :) - best $60 I ever spent

Looks like they are discontinued, but Sears still got em

They seem to be still manufactured. I saw a few sites that say "available in mid December".
I'm guessing these are active in the sense of self-powered, but not in the sense I meant it - crossover at the line level then separate amps for each driver after the xover.

the reviews on zzsounds seem to be positive
Thanks for that. I didn't think to check the customer ratings. From a few sites, there are a large population of owners and many have had these for years with no problems.

Thanks, I never really knew that this is what active monitor really means
I guess next time I should be looking for something like this:
"Active crossover network with 4th-order Linkwitz-Riley filter"

I can't say you misused the term. Powered speakers are commonly referred to as "active".
But when somebody like TLS Guy is saying all modern speakers should be active, he is saying the crossover should be upstream of the amps. Otherwise, a lot of power gets wasted as heat at the crossover.
I don't know if this statement is valid, but it makes intuitive sense to me to manipulate the low level signal and give the high current amplified signal a clean and straight shot to the drivers. It also allows a manufacturer to customize the amp to the driver.
For example, my Focal Solo6 Be uses a 150WRMS class D amp (efficient good slam, but not good for high frequencies) for the woofer and a 100WRMS class AB amp (good sound, but inefficient - source of heat) for the tweeter.
I doubt the B2031A offers the full advantages of the active format, but within the cost constraints, I suspect they did what they could.

Was just asking to get an idea of your reference point for the question.
