Has anyone checked ou these new Behringer A500 amps? I am hooked on professional two channels for my home amp, and this thing looks great. Lots of power (>200 W/ch) and is convection cooled. But, everone is selling these at ~$180 each. This seems a bit cheap, is it? Or is it just priced to move?

Yep, searched using "A500", "behringer" and "behringer A500" and got no hits. I looked back through 5 or 6 pages of threads and found some info but nothing too in depth. What is the name of the thread(s) I should search?

One more question, due to high WAF my amp must be placed in an enclosed cabinet. It is not really that small, a window seat (2' H, 5' L, 1.5' deep). In this cabinet are my other components, the usual CD, DVD, tuner and preamp. None of this seems to create much if any heat. My question is do you guys think that this cabinet will allow for enough air to efficiently cool a convection-cooled amp? I can, of course, keep the door open on long running times (which are few) and this is my living room, I rarely have this thing at high volume for very long.

Thanks for any input

You could modify your cabinet and pick up some low-noise 120mm fans for the rear. Put these on a rheostat switch and you can run them just below audibility. This will keep your equipment cool without the amps hanging out in the open.

Thought about this, but how hot is this likely to ever get??? The length of time to watch a DVD seems to be the max run time at a single time. I don't use my audio system for general TV watching, 70% music, 30% video.

RUN!!!!! don't walk to get these amps. I have 2 running mono for my fronts - AAD 2001 monitors. I just can't say enough about they're performance, incredible. In your mind just add an extra zero to the $180 price tag so you'll think they cost you some serious change & that should keep you happy thinking that you paid a bundle for them. I have the 2 amps sitting on top of each other. Heat hasn't been a problem at all.

amplifiers do not produce the same amount of heat watching movies as they do listening to music, your amps will get much hotter while listening to music, the fans that jaxvon suggested are a good idea if you plan on stacking or enclosing them.

How would you guys compare this amp to the Crown XLS202A?

I can only comment on the A500 amp - INCREDIBLE!!! I have never heard the Crown, but I've read very positive reviews from users. If I'm not mistaken I think the Crown is fan cooled, I just don't like the possibility of hearing it run. Maybe it's not even an issue but I really don't know. I do know that the A500 does not have a fan for cooling hence it is stone quiet in it's operation. In mono I believe it is rated at 440 wpc. I'm running 2 in mono & they perform beautifully.

yea i think these amps perform sooo well for us is because we use them for such little time compared what they are really made for..and plus im sure the majority of the people who are using these amps are not using them on full tilt 90% of the time..either way they sound like a good buy..

i wanna know if the extra 90 bucks is worth it for the crown amp i mentioned..

Buy them both & see which one you like better. Then send the other one back. Parts Express has a 45 day return policy. That gives you plenty of time for a shootout. Have fun w/ them

Man don't be such a wus!! I've done it quite a few times. I tried Axiom speakers, Aperion speakers, OHM speakers, AV123 Ref1 speakers, Benchmark DAC, AVcables (Jensen) ground loop isolator. Guess what? I sent them all back & didn't have a problem w/ any of them. In fact all their customer service were excellent w/ the returns. However the A500 amps from Parts Express are staying. Too good to send back. The only way to critique a product is to have it in your house set up in your system. It really is a lot of fun & nothing's better than hands on. Give it a shot you'll be happy you did.
