To add
Try plugging the A500 into your Surge protector , this might clean up any dirty power .
Interesting outcome.:D Now the Q is was there something with the RCA connection on the amp?

I've owned two A500s and several others that've used it noted the same thing. Sadly, I think it's more the exception that someone uses the RCAs and doesn't encounter the "hum" issue... -TD

Would you say the balanced input supresses humming even more than the 1/4" jack?

I just tried a 1/4" to RCA adaptor, which significantly lowered the humming. It is still noticeable though, if you stand close enough to the speakers.

Best regards,

mike c,

when you say balanced input, I am a bit green to this and not too sure what you mean. There are some 1/4 trs that has two balck circles on the bottom and some with one. Which one did you use?
TRS means 'Tip, Ring, Sleeve' and refers to the 1/4" plug/jack. This is a smaller version of a balanced low impedance input that takes up less space than the larger XLR input (the large circle with three small holes. The Tip corresponds to XLR Pin 2, Ring is the same as Pin 3 and the Sleeve is hte same as Pin 1.

An adapter or plug with only Tip and Sleeve isn't for balanced input bit it does allow connecting an XLR output to a mono 1/4" input by making a cable with XLR on one end and 1/4" plug on the other. It's not a perfect way, but it works.
