Basic Audio Question

I will be upgrading my H.T.sytem shortly, first time since 2001. I have read up on HDMI but have a question. My new 3D blue ray will be going through my new AV receiver via a high speed hdmi. From the receiver there will be another hdmi to the tv. Should I add an optical cable to carry the 5.1 (will be upgraded to 7.1) sound or wll the hdmi really handle everthing? I find it hard to beleive the 1 cable will replace my old component and digital cables. Thanks.

You can believe it. Not only that, HDMI 1.4A can, in some applications, replace your Ethernet cables as well.
