Due to their physical construction and the fact the black part is plastic, there ain't no way in hell the Sewell Deadbolts could short out while plugged into a binding post. On Sewell's site I see reference to the outer jacket being brass. There is a rubber ring around it, but I think where the wire comes out the back it is actually black brass. That being said, I have not yet tested to see if it is conductive. I think I have a multimeter somewhere at home...
