Can anyone give me a rough idea how B&W speakers compare to internet only brands like SV Sound, Axiom, TSC etc?

Much like Fords compare to foreign cars like BMW, Hyundai, Fiat, Toyota, and Rolls-Royce.

This statement is limited to subwoofers only: ID brands are a better ROI.

For all other speakers...well that's simply a personal choice.

B & W 600 series

When shopping for speakers I went to a high end store in my area (Chicago area) and listened to a 5.1 setup which consisted of: fronts: B&W 685, Center: HTM62, Rear: 686 and an ASW 608 sub.

The sub was not very impressive. The 685s were very nice and detailed, but they didn't blow me away. We spent about 90 minutes listening to music and movies.

I opted for internet: my system is Hsu - and I'm quite pleased with it. The B&W system I auditioned would have cost more than $2000 plus Illinois sales tax. I got my Hsu 5.1 system (see my signature for details) for about $500 less.

Of course speaker preference is VERY subjective and you may love the B&W sound. Also, I don't know what price range you're looking at.

B&W makes some great speakers: but the 600 series isn't it.

Which was something of my point above. Not onlt does Ford make both the fiestia and the GT, but there's a lot of other brands. The question is so inspecific as to be unanswerable.

The 600 series is decent for home theater to be fair. But I much prefer the 700 or 802's:D

The 802's are the best widely available speaker on the market.
Jerry will soon be the owner of even better speakers, but his are the result of precision engineering and mad science.:D
