B&W dm603 s3 or paradigm monitor 11

at my local ht store they are priced in the same rame range...salesman says the smaller b&w would sound better but im worried about my living room which is 14 by 20 with 16 ft cathedral ceilings and is open to my dining rm as well...with a good sub which will be better ? also was looking at the axiom m60s....

Sound is subjective so the salesman cannot say that one will sound better to you than the other. The Paradigm has a bigger cabinet and more drivers which will result in a more full-range sound and would work very well on its own without a sub (especially for music). B&W typically has a more detail and resolution (although the Monitor 11's are very good as well!!)and you may certainly prefer its sound over the paradigm, but for frequencies below, say 55-60hz, you will need a sub. Both are very good choices and I think would work out very well.

Would the monitors not sound better in a larger room? I am thinking that your 16ft cathedral ceilings are hard to fill with sound.

The 603's will have no difficulty filling that room provided you have reasonable amplification. They are fairly efficient though they do have a large impedence swing so a more powerful amp suits them better. Our room is about 21x24ft, 18ft high one side and 11ft the other and our 602's have no problems, I rarely turn the 162/272 NAD above 10:30. Okay 11 -12 if I want LOUD. That doesn't mean you won't prefer other brands as speakers are subjective - like most things.

Well i have the yamaha rx-v2600 ...And I listened to the 603s with that reciever at the ht store and i just wasnt WOWed by them...like they say,sound is subjective..They had the monitor 7s but not the 11s...I'll have to drive a little to hear them..Im going to give the axiom m60s a try..Too many good reviews from customers to not try them..They should be here tomorrow..wish me luck...thanks...

Good Point...So I guess axiom got it right then..Cause i got my m60s todays and they are awesome...I mean I cant wiat to hear these guys when they're broken in..I wont be using the return policy for sure...Thanks for all the info...
