B&W ASW600 vs. SVS/HSU/Adire etc.

I'm currently on the market for a new sub and I had pretty much settled on getting a SVS PB10 or a HSU STF-2, or something along those lines...basically a decent direct purchase sub in the $400 range. I'm doing so to bolster my recently purchase front speakers: a pair of B&W DM601 s3's and an LCR60.

However, my local retailer is having a month-long sale (?) for their anniversary and when I walked in there today, they had a B&W ASW600 for $449, down from $500. I'm wondering if that's a comparable sub to the ones I was previously looking at. My reasons for consideration are as follows:

1) There's no shipping. I can pick it up tomorrow, and save the $30-$40 on shipping on the others. True, I pay tax, which comes out to about $20, but there's no wait.

2) There's something appealing about having a matching set up. Looking at the sub in the retailers room and glancing over to see the exact set-up I have (601's & LCR60 across the room), it looked really nice. Yes, performance rules, but matching all of the speakers really apppealed to me visually.

So, does anyone know anything about the merits of this sub vs. the online marketers? I did notice it's continuous performance was less ( @ 150W continuous). In terms of build, it looked and felt really solid...no complaints there. Am I paying a little more money for a significantly lesser sub being that I'm paying for that B&W badge on the front....or, is this a solid sub that could hang with the SVS/HSU, etc?

Thanks for any input.

I have only heard the STF2 (looking at it as I write this:D) but if you are looking for a musical sub that will integrate well with your speaker and at the same time give you insane low bass, the STF2 is very hard to beat. Good luck with your purchase - what ever you end up with!

Whats a musical sub vs a non one? A good sub is a good sub?

I can't comment on the small SVS (I'm only familiar with their 12" subs), but the HSU should stay ahead of the B&W in both total SPL and lowest tones playable.

But then again you do like matching speakers.... So its a question of which is more important: The last X% of performance, or looks?
