I am quite sure 1028 plus two JL Audio would sound better.
IMO a lot of speakers + 2 great subs + DEQ would sound better than the 802/800D2 and most towers w/o any subs. :D

Really? I would have thought the preference would be for a 2.0 for better cohesiveness, but obviously good results can be obtained with 2.1 or 2.2. Given that list on the 1028 is 8500-9K, plus an arbitrary 2.5K each for a pair of subs, and you're in under the 802 msrp. Should flyboylr45 have just added subs?? :D

Well, he never c/o lack of bass. I think it was just midrange & maybe treble for him.

Again, we are all talking about subjective personal preference, not right and wrong.

What flyboy prefers is different than what others prefer.

Flyboy is happy with the 802. :D As far as what I perceive to be different, the soundstage seems wider, and of course, the bass is awesome. They also seem to be more efficient even though spec wise they're not. I prefer the tweeter and midrange of the 802. The 802s just feel effortless in their reproduction at the same levels. Mind you, if I don't sell the 1028s I will be putting them in my living room and may pair them with a couple of sb13-ultras. I just think in my room, with the way it is treated, there is absolutely no comparison between the two.

But like Acudef said, this is all about personal preferences. All of these speakers, the Focals, B&W, Revels, ML are all good, we are just all different. :D

This is about personal preference and subjective opinions. It's not about "true" or "false".
I said the same, it is a highly subjective thing, but I would now add that only to a point. If we are to compare it to the real/live thing then I believe it is actually true that most speakers will do better with a pair of great subs such as the JL Audio. My Focal dealer told me that and I believe him. Even the bigger 1038 and the much bigger yet B&W 800 Diamond can/will do better with a pair of high end JLAs. I have been to enough live unamplifiered concerts to know that.:D. As for DEQ, someone who listen at >100 dB won't need it and it won't do anything for them anyway.

Remember a long time ago in a galaxy far far away when I got excoriated for saying I thought the Def Tech BP7000SC sounded better than the 800D? :D

I also said the RBH T2 sounded better than both the BP7000SC & 800D? :D

Well, each BP7000SC has like a built-in 14" 1800 watts powered sub!

And each RBH T2 has an actual 1010 sub.

So it was never a fair comparison. It's "almost" like comparing the 1028be + dual JL subs vs 802D w/ no subs.

Yeah, adding dual subs makes a huge difference for sure.

So what you're saying is, I need to buy 2 JL subs? ;-)

The 802 diamond should not need a sub or 2 for normal:D people in a small to medium room. In a larger room it most likely will help, a lot. The much smaller 804 diamond does, and if you can believe the one professional review (Stereophile I think). It could then actually do better than the 802 but to me it's no longer about sound, it is about the Marlan head.:D

Still personal preference. :D

You may not need subs.

Not everyone prefers the same thing, right? :)

Imagine listening to "Hotel California" from "Hell Freezes Over" album. It has some really strong bass when you use subs. And if you are accustom to hearing all that bass, hearing the song without subs will seem kind of weak. There is no way even the 800D2 can produce that kind of sub bass.

But if you are accustom to hearing the song without subs, then you wouldn't think the bass is weak with the 802D2. :D

So it just depends on what you are used to hearing, what you perceive as "normal", what you personally prefer.

And I would not personally buy JL subs for myself, so I don't recommend 2 JL subs. ;)

I would personally prefer dual passive Funk 18.0 subs or dual RBH SX-1010N subs. :D

I agree, of course - It should be a standard understood stipulation in almost every post that any opinions expressed are 'personal preference', combined with the individual environment that the equipment is in - the same person listening to any given speaker in my room with my associated equipment is going to hear a difference to when he's listening to the same speakers in his home environment with his equipment. Which is what makes this so difficult, but at the same time intriguing. Flyboylr45's Focals are great speakers, but in his room to his tastes the 802s are better (they cost more too, so we'd hope he'd prefer them). That does not make the Focals 'bad'. Flyboy prefers the mids and tweeters in the 802 (wonder if you'd prefer them in the 803 as well?), and that's the 'right' answer for him. Maybe I would as well, maybe not. Maybe I would in his room, but maybe in my room it would be reversed.

I don't take anything anyone says as gospel, although when I read the brand bashing I've seen, I tend to discard that out of hand -anyone arrogant enough to declare a brand as crap and imply anyone who buys them is an idiot is not someone to be listened to. I do like to pay attention to people who have a variety of speakers and pick up on the pluses/minuses they may talk about. ACTG has had a variety of speakers, so for me personally his opinions are worth listening to - but not taken as gospel since again, they are HIS opinions. I would like him to buy the Aerial 7Ts' and give me an opinion on those compared to some his other speakers :D

AND, it is my opinion that my Focals should become your Focals and that they would sound absolutely amazingly magical in your listening room, with or without subs. :D

The odds of me buying a Lexus LX 570 is a lot higher. :D

I think the Aerial 7T are probably great speakers. It's just that I'm pretty much done with buying audio gears for the foreseeable future. I am utterly blissful with my electronics, speakers & subs. :D

I think a lot of speakers sound pretty great, especially over $2K.

Yeah, I was going to say he needs dual subs regardless. :D

But I didn't want to sound presumptuous. :D

And it doesn't have to be JL. It could be any number of brands.
