Hey,

i hope it's the right place.

i just bought the following set:

B&W speakers:
front- pair of 685
center- HTM62
Rear- 686
Subwoofer- ASW610

Onkyo A/V reciever model TX-NR609.

i notice in the speaker configuration i can adjust the frequancy for the speakers but to be honest i dont know what should i select.

i noticed in some forums that it was reccomended to cut the front at 80Hz but when checking with the B&W show room the recommend to cut in 120Hz.

anyone using this set and can guid me ?

also, i can set the LPF, but again, to which frequancy ?

my room is around 3.5 meter wide and 4.5 meter long, im using the system mostly for movies but also for music.

many thanks!

Can I Be of Help?

Forget the numbers. Set things by ear. In other words, try one setting and if it doesn't sound right to you, try another one. For example, if you set the crossover frequency to 80Hz and decide that things are "too thin" in the midrange, try moving the frequency upward and see what happens. If too much "midrange" comes out of the subwoofer _ like maybe enough to hear the location of the sub _ pull the frequency down somewhat. What I'm saying here is use your ears. Experiment and tweak continuously with the settings until you get it to where it sounds best to you.

There is no set method. The end goal is to have good blending of the sub with the speakers.

Since the sub is not particularly tough, it is critically important to find the optimal location for it. Crawling for bass is an easy way to dial in the location.

Based on the measurements from this review, initially set all crossovers at 100Hz.

From here start tweaking. That said, don't go below 60 Hz for mains (based on measured FR), 80 Hz for center, and 100 Hz for rears (article's FR measurements for center and rear are practically meaningless).

When set correctly, you should not be able to tell that a sub is playing.

Here are how i have my B&Ws, some are the same as yours others are different.

HTM-61: 60hz
683: 60hz
685: 90hz

Id recommend for you to start with:

HTM-62: 90hz
685: 80hz
686: 100hz

Start there & i agree to use your ears. If your sub is up front then you can have your fronts crossed a little higher if you like. If your sub is behind you then you can cross your rears a little higher. Id never cross any higher than 120hz & never lower than 60hz. Specially with bookshelves & if you listen at high volume levels. I used to have the HTM-62 & i crossed at 80hz. Thats where i liked it.
