Axion AXN-7200 20" LCD TV w/DVD Player Review

Remember those cheesy 50's television shows & commercials that depicted the household of the future? You know, the ones with bubble TVs, bubble sofas, and bubble cars (if you're having trouble picturing this, just visit an Ikea store.) Even the Jetsons didn't present such a hokey picture of the 21st century. While you have these picturesque visions of the future in mind, let's think about a more realistic - and truly contemporary - version of what a television could be. The AXN-7200 20" LCD TV/DVD Combo, with its top-side slot-loading DVD player and curved display stand, presents what I feel is a forward-thinking "next stage" design for televisions - without reaching too far ahead or appearing completely out of place. This next-generation design is only compromised by a rather disappointing level of performance (both functionally as well as visually) that we hope Axion will eventually remedy in future generations of this device.

[Read the Review]

Now lets hear them complain about only nice reviews. Good job (as always) Clint. I thought that this was one nice looking unit. It was so stylish looking. The interface problems and load times seem pretty inexcusable. Was this a prototype you reviewed or the finished product?

My understanding was that I received a final product. They claim to have fixed some of the problems, but they never specified which and I do not have the "new & improved" model (or old for that matter) to check.

I'd like to see your impression of the 23" Toshiba w/ DVD LCD--sold @ Best Buy. Though $400 more. Does have higher resolution. Considering it for bedroom.

I don't see that one on their site, but the 23" one they do show (sans DVD player) is a completely different type of product than the Axion. The Toshiba is an HDTV set with actual video processing circuitry, etc, so you will pay - and get - more out of it.

Toshiba's model # is the 23HLV84 and it has been on sale for $1499.

This may just be a model made exclusively for Best Buy. I am considering it
for our bedroom when it drops below the $1,000 range. Which I expect within a year.
