Canton makes some very nice speakers. Check out our review of one of their top models. Our only gripe is their price, which b/c they are an import, is a bit high. If you can get them for 30-50% off retail, they are definately a good contender to consider IMO.

I can't comment on the Canton's, I've never heard them. However, I do own the Axiom M60's, and I think they are terrific speakers, together with my VP100 center, they create a great soundstage with wonderful imaging particularly when driven hard.

I heard the middle line of the Cantons, and they sounded very nice...
the weren't mind blowing, but then again they were only the middle line...
and priced the way a higher line should be...

I thought they were extremely well constructed, and looked marvelous....
But I have to say, their price was above what I thought they were worth to me.

I have never heard the Axiom's at all, but would love to put them to the test...

Just a heads up... the ones you reviewed now carry a MORE than 50% (from when you reviewed them) lower cost. The model number, however, has changed. The speaker AH reviewed is now the Karat 711 DC and, instead of retailing at $10K per pair they are now $4800. I am not aware of any major changes that have been made to this model except for some new finishes since your review in 2004. With the addition of the new Vento line, this is no longer Canton's top product and thus, is no longer priced as such.

Another reason Canton's are a little pricey compared to some is because they manufacture all of their own drivers in house. They make a fine fine sounding product and their build quality as well as visual beauty is tough to beat. Certainly worth a listen.

i own axioms too and i do think they are pretty nice.. especially the surrounds. the only thing that sucks is the finish. They look super cheap, which they kind of are, but they sound nice.

I own the M60s. Very nice speakers for the price. I compared them to the BW 703 and the M60s sounded far better to me for about half the price.

Don't know about the cantons.

I am new here and I have been doing a lot of reading/studying/learning from all the experts in this forum. I find this forum to be very helpful and everyone is very friendly to give their opinions. I am not yet as expert and far from being one, but I do have to agree that the Axiom M80 is a pair of good speaker for that budget range. I am somewhat disappointed by the finish, however, sound quality is more important than the look.

Conclusion is, I am very pleased with Axiom products.

I own the Axiom M22's, QS8's and VP 150 Center and the fit and finish on all is impecable. I have owned these now about 3 months. While the colors may not be what you may want, the application of materials is spot on. Some reviewers talk about the flimsy grills, but they seem heavy enough to me. I looked at several other manufacturers speaker finishes and the Axiom's is better than most but certainly up to par with the best of the vinyl finished speakers.

Oh Yeah,

These speakers sound great. Great sound stage, the center channel handles it's duties well and the QS8's are a quality surround. I hope this helps.
