VC,

Your M80Ti's are rated at 4 ohms, yet seem efficient. Do they strain your Denon at all? Would you say they are more efficient than inefficient?
Buckeyefan:
I'd say they are more efficient. As I turn the volume up at lower levels, the speakers output increases relative to the setting. However, once they reach a certain point, the output increases greater than the rate of volume input, if that makes any sense to you.

As for straining the Denon, it gets hot but has never shut down on me. Unfortunately for me the unit sits in an enclosed cabinet with rear vent holes. Hence, I only play it at loud levels during movies and when I'm alone in the house. In other words, for a couple of hours at most. I'll be rigging up some fans this week so that will soon change. Can't wait!

I have no problem at all, plenty of power with the 3805. In case if you have a 3805, I usally watch movie with my volume at -19. sometime with old movie I have to go in the -16, but most of those new DVD or good remaster one -19 is loud enought, even I sometime have to keep it at -22 because is too loud.

I don't have any problem with heat, I put my system in the wall, but build a door\wall 6 1/2 feet, that open at the back to gain full access to the all cables and system. So my 3805 is on the top shelf have 7 inch clearence on the top 2 inch on each side nothing on front and about 2 feet at the back. It's petty hard to explaine but with planty of breadding place the 3805 have never had any problem. I should find a digital cameras on day and take some picture.

I don't understand the Axiom bashing I have read around the web. Before I ordered the M22s, I auditioned some of the big brands. Some of them I liked, some I didn't. I didn't hear anything downtown that I liked as much as my M22s. My son has the psb image series, they are nice speakers and so are my Axioms. I don't agree with the reviewer that hated the VP100. I have it as my center channel and I am very happy with it. Furthermore, the only way you could pry the M22s out of my hands, you would have to give me a pair of M60s.

Of course I like my JBL PB12 subwoofer, too. I've also been told that is a bad sub. So, what do I know.

Hey littleb,
I would not base the choice only on reviews, but it sure help to narrow down choice with all the different choice on the market. I always consider speaker like a paire of eyes glass, no one see the same and no one ear the same. Plus there is so many variable to include when you listen to a speaker that there sound properties can be very different depending to there environement.

My Axiom Speaker Audition

I started this thread and find that I am in some way, not sure what way, obligated to at least respond to the folks that spent their time on posts. While reading posts I was asked if I had found a location for audition of the Axiom System. This question prompted me to get to work and actually listen rather than to just write.

My first problem in auditioning was to figure out how best to do it; this would be a good topic in itself. My decision was to select a sample recording and listen to each set of auditioned speakers with the same sound reproduction. By using this fairly logical approach I am required to travel down to the nearest Barnes and Nobel to purchase an SACD. My selection is a digitally remastered recording of Pink Floyd – Dark Side of the Moon. My second problem was to actually find a place for audition and figure out how to get there.

After one hundred and Eighty (180) miles of travel on congested freeways and parkways without parks I can finally say that I have actually auditioned and come to vague conclusions. My conclusions need a rating so in my own haphazard way I will use the good old earthquake rating system in logarithmic Richter scale fashion to demonstrate the magnitude of superb listening pleasure.

Audition Number One: What does one do while traveling 180 miles in dense intolerable traffic? You listen to music of course – or decide to kill someone. Here is the kicker to my story; my Toyota Scienna actually has a music system that accommodates SACD Dolby digital. I didn’t even know that the technology was available on the vehicle until my wife popped the Pink Floyd diskette into the reader. WOW, the acoustical magnificence of an automobile interior coupled with track 6 – Money and Track 7 – Us and Them. My audition rating = 10.

Audition Number Two: We somehow arrive at a private residence that posted an invitation for Axiom audition on the Axiomaudio.com website. The young man and his wife who answer the door are extremely cordial, with a beautiful home and beautiful children. There Axiom system is not entirely set up, there are M60ti’s on each side of the TV, VP100 on the side of the TV, and two QS8’s at about 10 foot elevation on each side of a large slope ceiling great room. I am trying to convey that this is a huge room with zero acoustical refinements. Well, my Pink Floyds are useless because these folks have no compatible disk player, I will have to do without SACD music. But what the heck, if you want to consider speaker quality why not listen to a two channel system on a standard CD so that dynamics are not a significant issue when quantifying speaker quality. Do you agree with this? The result of my audition of the front speaker system only using a very good but moderate ranged female vocalist follows: My Audition Rating for a somewhat bright speaker system = Richter Scale 6.9 , Front LR Speaker Cost per pair $ 900

Audition Number Three: Ok, after the Axiom audition my wife and I need to do another for comparison. There is a Paradigm distributor that is only 43 miles away in heavy traffic. We spend about 1.5 hours driving and listening to guess who? No not “guess who” but Pink Floyd. After a while of driving we find ourselves at the Paradigm sales office setting in a low ceiling rectangular room of approximately 2500 cubic feet. There does not appear to be any special acoustical enhancements to the room. The very cordial salesman works hard to figure out how to play the SACD but decides that his equipment is not set up for it. Soooo – we listen to a very good but moderate ranged female vocalist on a standard two channel CD. My Richter Scale auditions ratings follow:
………..
………..
Paradigm Studio 20 without center channel or surrounds: My audition rating = Richter Scale 7.5, Front L/R speaker cost per pair $800

Paradigm Studio 40 without center channel or surrounds: My audition rating = Richter Scale 8.5. with front speaker cost per pair $1.200 less 11% discount.

Paradigm Studio 60 without center channel or surrounds: My audition rating for a somewhat bright sounding system – Richter Scale 8.0 with a front speaker cost per pair $1600.

Paradigm Studio 100 without center channel or surrounds: My audition rating = 9.0 with a front speaker cost per pair $2,200.

Paradigm Reference Signature S4 without center channel or surrounds: My audition rating = 10.2 with a front speaker cost of $2600. Oh how I would like to listen to the complete Signature system in an acoustical improved listening room playing Pink Floyd’s Track 6 – Money. Well, I might as well with to include an Alice in Wonderland Video to make it perfect.

Continuation: message 25 “My Axiom Speaker Audition”

I broke my own rule by mentioning another speaker system in the thread; please accept an apology. There may be others who want to post their experience with their Axioms. Secondly, after reading my own message there is a good chance that my expectations were set too high for the Axiom audition. I was expecting Pink Floyd in three dimensions – may be even four dimensions; I didn’t get that - consequently my haphazard rating for the product could be low. I’ve not purchased a system yet. Perhaps in the future an Axiom system will still arrive at my door step.
