Axiom M80 vs Rocket RS1000 (or RS850)

I've been looking at getting a new system for some time and have always been interested in the Axioms. However, I've heard good things about the Rockets as well. With the Rocket currently selling for nearly 1/2 off, I was curious what some opinions are out there between the Axiom M80 and the Rocket RS1000. They are almost the same price.

Never heard either of them :)

I would choose AV123 over Axiom anyday.

Good to see you back in the game. 3 words, demo, demo demo.

You already know what the Axiom's can do ;), now you just need to find out if the Rockets can keep up :D.

You have to audition these. They are very different from each other when it comes to sound.

Speaker options

For what it is worth the Rocket speakers will look a whole lot better than the vinyl finish Axioms. I have the Onix Ref line and the build quality is excellent.

Also note that the center channel is one of the stong points of the Rocket speaker lines and some conside the Axiom center a weak link.

Thanks. I'm looking a buying a system before Christmas, but the more forums I read, the more I read about how speakers sound different in different environments. With that in mind, I can't imagine more opposite environments than you have compared to my room. In fact, I wish I had your room for a more immersive sound experience. So I'm thinking I'll need to buy speakers and demo them in my house, then send them back if I don't like them. The problem with this is the expense associated with shipping the ID speakers. B&M speakers should be easy. I plan on buying Polk RTi12's to demo against some ID speakers like Axiom or Aperion.

I'm trying to put together a short list of speakers to demo in my own home, so that is primarily what I use the opinions in these forums for. I already know I'll be demoing Axioms in my house at some point, but I'm curious if I should add the Rockets to my list given their new low price.

In these forums, I look for reviews that have demo'ed speakers in a room that opens to a 2 story cathedral ceiling style home, to help narrow down my choices. I also look for common issues between different reviewers. For instance, I think everyone agrees that Axioms are 'forward sounding' or 'bright', whatever that means. I guess you get more high frequency sound levels from them?

I've read that about their center in several forums as well.

Do you have any good quality pictures? I'm not thrilled with the photos on AV123's website.

I would also vote for the AV123's Rocket RS1000: 350-watts built-in subwoofer w/ bass down to 29 Hz (+/-3 dB).
The Axiom M80 goes to 34 Hz (+/-3 dB).

I also have not auditioned either speaker. They both look pretty good. But based on the available data, my educated guess would be to favor the Rocket RS1000.

The Rocket RSC200 center channel, or "Bigfoot", measures 12 x 10.5 x 25.5 and weighs 46lbs. It can be played loud without distortion and vocals have a neutral sound. The midrange is not as bright as you'd get with Axioms or Klipsch. You will have to decide which type of sound you prefer.

I'll throw in a picture after I make three more unnecessary posts to get to the minimum required to post a picture...
