Axiom EP350 "chuff" ?

Once again I'm appealing to the resident forum experts and the like for information and advise!

I am looking to buy an Axiom EP350 Sub. It seems to be the perfect choice for my room size, etc.. I was reading some user reviews on the internet tonight and there were 3 or 4 people who claimed to hear "chuffing" from the 350 and even down to 30% gain at normal listening volumes. They had some positive things to say but ultimately returned the product because of this phenomenom. Although I haven't ever heard chuffing and I somehow doubt this is occurring, I would love to hear from anyone who is currently using this model or has had one in the past.

I am using an axiom vp150 center atm and am nuts for this thing. I intend to upgrade my entire speaker set to all axioms as I can afford to do it.

Sorry, I haven't any experience with this sub....but when I went to Axiom's website to look at it, I saw this----> Anechoic Resp. +/- 3dB 28 - 150
Room Resp. + 3dB/- 9dB 18 - 150

I'm reasonably surprised that anyone would advertise a response at +3/-9 db. How odd...and misleading. It also caused me to wonder...is the usual +3/-3db an industry "standard", convention, or what?

I don't have experience with the sub, but from the ton of reading I've done on Axioms, their subwoofers aren't very good values untill you hit the 500 and 600. Below that, you're better off going Hsu or SVS. At the $650 pricepoint, I think I'd rather have a Hsu STF-3. Twelve inches of subwoofering goodness, a highly linear 300W amp, and just plain ol' non-flashy goodness. Compare that to the Axiom 200W MAX amp. 300W RMS is a lot more power.
