There will be no charts or graphs in this post. The setup was done with an RS SPL Meter and the Sound & Vision disk. My ears were the only tools used for this evaluation.

I have had six different subwoofers in the last 18 months searching for the right product at the right price. I have had this incredible subwoofer for over a week now and it continues to get better. My family room doubles as the HT room and presents a challenge for any single subwoofer, as it is approx 7000 cubic ft and has several large openings to other areas. Prior to the EP-600, the best sub for providing bass that can be both felt and heard had been my Velodyne DD-18. That sub was great for HT and music but was not a good fit (size wise) due to the way the room and furniture are laid out (WAF issues). The (very) vertical EP-600 and its relatively small footprint is a perfect fit in the room, but could it match the DD-18 in quality output? The answer for me (and the W) is an unequivocal yes. This subwoofer puts out the strongest cleanest bass I have heard in my space. I did extensive listening of both music and movies this past weekend the EP-600 just got better with each new challenge. From the Pearl Harbor attack to UB-571 to Batman Begins and Kingdom of Heaven this sub just nails all of the low frequency material. The 600 has none of the “overhang” or boominess that I have heard with other subs. I guess fast is the best way to describe the sound of the EP-600. Explosions, bass guitar notes or just the general movie low frequency rumble that is so prevalent these days, takes on a new character with this sub. I can honestly say that I have found my subwoofer for my HT. It meets all of my criteria in terms of quality output and affordability.

Hidog,

What speakers are you using with the 600?

I have Monitor Audio GR60 mains, Silver Center and S6 rear/surrounds. Sub crossover on my Denon 3805 is set to 80Hz. Speakers are driven by a Sunfire 200W 5 channel amp.

Thanks. And that's a mighty nice setup!

EP600 and WAF

So let me get this straight. If we purchase the Velodyne DD-18 first, then our wives will find the Axiom EP600 small and unobtrusive in comparision and let us keep it???

Sounds like a great HT with plenty of bass.

That is funny and not far off the mark. The listening "experience" the DD-18 created was powerful. The W liked the sound/feel of powerful base. She was dismissive of the "smaller" subs that followed the Velo. The 600 fit the space pretty well and provided the "experience" so it is in, but you can't put something that big in a living space and call it unobtrusive. :)
