I have an old pair of AWA omnidirectional speakers but no info on them.
AWA (used to be amalgamated wireless australia) these days is rubbish imported tv's, dvd players etc but there was a time when AWA was the best in speaker design engineering.
It won the contract for the original sound system installation for the Sydney Opera House and also made the microphone used at the opening ceremonies for the Sydney Harbour Bridge.
These speakers I have would be from either the very late 60's to early 70's.
What is different about these speakers is that each enclosure has a total of 7 drivers, 2 4x6 drivers at top front, 1 4x6 on each of the other 3 sides at the top. Then the enclosure is split with a space between the top and the large body which has a foster 8" low frequency driver at the bottom, facing down.
In the space between the top and the body the is a wood turned conical shape facing upwards, about 200mm in diameter and above this is a downwards facing tweeter.
The tweeter signal hits the conical shape thus spreading the high frequency around 360 degrees.
Dimensions of enclosure are about 900mm h 450mm w 400mm d
The sound produced is very crisp with an amazingly tight bass, even with todays music that tends to have far more lows than when these speakers were made.
Any information would be appreciated or comments welcome.
