Check out the Onkyo 805 or 875. The 805 is out, and the 875 is due in July and features one of the best video chips for upconverting standard def movies and dvd's.

Denon will have a new unit out called the 3808 supposedly in July that will rival the 3806. I wasn't thrilled with the performance of my 3805. It served me well, but blew an amp for no good reason (not pushing it and cables never touched). I'd probably opt for the newer gen Onkyo's.

If you're in the states, you can get a much, much better price on the 3806 and Marantz 7001 online. These units should be selling under $1000 since they're being updated. You many not need the 1080p, but you can benefit from the better audio processing as this will be the wave of the future.

Here's some good deals if you're not afraid of refurbished units:

New receivers

In the next couple months, Denon, Yamaha, Pioneer, and Onkyo will have their new models out with HDMI 1.3, etc. I would opt for a new model with the latest features or get a good discount on the "old" model like the Denon 3806 or Yamaha RX-V2700.

I wouldn't buy from Dakmart. Lots of bad reviews from buyers when I googled them. Seems they often don't have advertised items in stock, and customer support seems to be abhorant. I don't have any direct experience, but based on what I read, I wouldn't buy anything from them, and I really wanted to.
