I have a Samsung ln52a750 lcd and I'm getting ready to get an AVR. I know my tv is HDMI 1.3 and won't do 3d no big deal to me as it will be years before I consider upgrading my TV.

So regarding Audio Return Channel, I'm assuming my TV can't do ARC so to get TV sound through my 5.1 what do I do?

Do i just need 2 HDMI cables one to bring bring in audio and video from my cable and DVD (will be getting a bluray soon) and then 1 to bring TV sound back to my AVR?

Or will just hooking up all my HDMI components to the AVR then 1 HDMI to the TV handle everything?

Also do I still want/need a HDMI 1.4 AVR?

Sorry for all the noob questions but I've been reading for hours and I'm still not sure what I need or want in regards to my AVR.

Thanks for the help.

All peripherals go to the AVR and then one HDMI to the TV from the receiver.

Don't even think about HTIB.

There is no need to bring audio/video from your TV. Run all devices through the AVR and then use a single HDMI cable and connect the AVR to the TV.

No HTIB for me, i'm considering the below AVR's, advice and input is appreciated. Budget is $400 max for the AVR. Most likely it will run 3 paradigm cinema 220 for l/c/r and eventually something for the rears. Only doing 3.1 to start till i get some more cash and an idea on what i want for rears. Will be a 5.1 system when i'm done.

So how important is video up conversion, I have FIOS HD for cable and will be getting a BluRay soon, once in a while i hook up the WII but that mostly stays on the kids tv.

Top choices i'm looking at are below but suggestions are welcome.

Denon AVR1611
Pioneer VSX-1020-K
Onkyo TX-SR608

Denon is much lower on power has 2 less HDMI slots no Satellite Radio-Ready or HD Radio Ready, none are deal breakers but features that may be nice in the future.

Thanks for the help.

Good choice. Better to run with fewer speakers for a while until you can afford the surrounds. Paradigm has the nicely matching Cinema ADP to go with the Cinema 220. I love the di-pole soundfield for movies on my Studio ADP-590.
