These were hooked up to my set up and played in full range without a sub and then played with various crossover settings with the sub. Amp used was the Rotel 1095.
I listened to 10 of my favorite test songs which included jazz, pop and alternative. Volume was varied form soft to quite loud.
The detail was impressive, The highs are still very laid back and almost seem boring.
I was still impressed with the mids, very accurate and pleasant.
The bass cleaned up quite a bit but with out the sub they seemed anemic.
I found the imagining to be very good but the sound stage seemed really small. I didn't play with the toe in much so I may could change this.
All in all, these are really nice speakers for the price paid. They do sound "tiny" in my room when ran at full range but if someone was going to cross over to an acceptable sub, I would say that the speakers can hold their own.
As far as how they compare to the 100's...not even close.
