Well they are hooked up and running. I have to say that I am interested enough, in what I hear, that I will have to drag them into my main room and give them a shot with my real equipment.

I have these crowded into my office and only 4.5 ft between them. They are 12'' from the back wall which is mainly windows, listening position is 5ft.

The only source I have hooked up is a MP3 player and I am powering with the 14 year old Pioneer VSX D2S.

First impression:

Highs seem pretty accurate and pleasing. They are more laid back then my Paradigm Studio 100's.

Mids are awesome, I am really liking what I hear. Vocals feel like they are in the room with me.

Lows seem muddy and overpowering. I find myself wanting to turn the bass down.

It will be interesting to see what happens when this are properly powered, crossed over to the sub and sent some well recorded music.

PD they look great. Put them back in the box. What ever you do don't hook them up to an amp. Trust me on this. Its what Adam wants you to do.

... it will lead to my wife yelling at me some more and I have had about all I can take of that today.
I find myself in the same boat real regular like. But I like it better when it's you getting lambasted.

She is just upset that I bought a system for my Nephew.
Would she be happier if you had bought it for me? :D Tell her you want to hang them from the bedroom ceiling pointing right at the bed. She won't care who you got them for so long as they go away. :)

Now about the speakers: they're real pretty. I think that once you cross them with you're rec'r and get them out of that half a hexagon your dislike for what they do with LF will go away. They are sooooo much better than what Adam has. :p

Translation: They don't pierce my ears like icepicks like the Paradigm.;)

Translation: So that's what music really sounds like.:p

Lows seem muddy and overpowering. I find myself wanting to turn the bass down.
Translation: I demand more bass than these speakers can provide.;)

Translation: I have two subwoofers. I should have bought bookshelf speakers.:p

One more item of help needed.

He will use his computer as his main music source. I am thinking of adding the 'High Resolution Technologies Music Streamer' for this.

It recieved high praise in a few articles I read. Is this the best, inexpensive way to go about using a laptop as your source?

I've also heard very good things about that product. I would have bought one by now but Christmas got in the way. I have not found one any chaper than 99 bucks and there seem to be only a few places on the net that sell them. If you get one I am very intertested to know what you think.

Ok, I will order one and give it a try.

I am about to move the NHTs into my real system for some testing so stay tuned.

Cool. I'm sure they will be a big change to the Paradigms but I wonder if it will be for the better.

Are you accepting applications for new relatives?:D

These were hooked up to my set up and played in full range without a sub and then played with various crossover settings with the sub. Amp used was the Rotel 1095.

I listened to 10 of my favorite test songs which included jazz, pop and alternative. Volume was varied form soft to quite loud.

The detail was impressive, The highs are still very laid back and almost seem boring.

I was still impressed with the mids, very accurate and pleasant.

The bass cleaned up quite a bit but with out the sub they seemed anemic.

I found the imagining to be very good but the sound stage seemed really small. I didn't play with the toe in much so I may could change this.

All in all, these are really nice speakers for the price paid. They do sound "tiny" in my room when ran at full range but if someone was going to cross over to an acceptable sub, I would say that the speakers can hold their own.

As far as how they compare to the 100's...not even close.

They don't look right either.

Read: I'm spoiled rotten. :D

Actually I'm just curious how much all that EQ'ing and Dynamic sub stuff you have would be tailored to your 100's but not to these. Did you reconfigure all that or are you running a set up tailored to the 100's?
