AVR and Equalization (Harman Kardon 132 for example)

Hi All,

Here is a simple (but important question).

If I buy a AVR, Harman Kardon 132 for example,

1. Will I be able to equalize the sound in a refined way?
I am not speaking about on which speaker send which frequences BUT : I want more basses, less trebles, simple equalization...
And will it be possible to adjust levels per frequencies?

2. Same question if I use STEREO DIRECT (like in HK 132):
I understand that in that case, what is in goes out without any DSP....
but does that mean that I can't even adjust Bass, Mid and Treble levels?

Thanks

To the OP,

are you talking about those old school slide equalizers from the two channel world of the 70's and 80's? I thought those went out with Dolby ProLogic. I know about the Hall and Theater options. Is that to what you're referring?

Stereo direct reads just like it sounds--no processing. I don't see pre-outs on this receiver, so it's not like you could feed the channels into an external EQ and amp. However, I'm guessing you could feed your source into an external EQ then send the results of the EQ into one of your analog inputs.

A Stereo-Direct mode bypasses the digital processor to preserve all of the subtleties of older analog, two-channel materials, while bass management, available in the surround and Stereo-Digital modes, improves your ability to tailor the sound to suit your room acoustics or taste.
