What does everyone think of the harman kardon hkts 14 speaker system? I have a avr 635 currently and a set of sony sa-ve445 speakers, see picture. Would the hkts be a good upgrade? They got a good reveiw on cnet 8/10. I would get them for 340. If anything, I am getting a good 12" sub and won't have to replace that if I upgrade in the very distant future.

Does anyone have an answer? Someone has to own this speaker set or have an opinion?

Looks like a lot of receiver for some less than stellar speakers in both cases. What is your budget and is there a speaker size limit?

The HK AVR 635 has something called an EzSet/EQ. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that midrange issues can be addressed. At least some what. Maybe. Okay, so it's a short fat limb. A friend has a 635 driving Infinity towers with double 8" woofers. That's what it's capable of.

If size is a restraint then I would go for a like sized Infinity set up. TSS1100? They have better spec's. :)

Thanks for the replies. I am sorry I did not give enough information. The speakers in the picture are the ones I currently have. I know they are cheap; they were my first speakers I bought when I was 16 for $200 four yrs ago. I am in college now, and was thinking the hkts would be a good upgrade. It seems like it might not be? I looked at the bic speakers on amazon. It would be 450 shipped. There is no size constraint. They are going in the living room which is about 16x12. Right now, I was just looking at the hkts because it was 340 shipped. I mean, it looked like if I wanted to just upgrade my sub it would cost 240. I like the speakers I have now, I think with a better sub, I will like the hkts 14. I was looking at the hkts as an inbetween system. I am not really ready to spend a lot of money on speakers. But maybe I am looking at this all wrong, and can get really good speakers now and don't have to wait?

dv62clrs center
dv62siSurround
dv64 L and R speakers or dv84 or dv75 (I don't know the diference but the cheapest one will put me at 450 shipped)

budget: I would like to spend 350 to? (right now, not too much. But if it is best to wait to upgrade, at most 1500. At that price, I would up grade in a few years after college.) Or maybe a system I could build off of? Get center, right left then the rest later?

I have never heard of those so personally I would stay away from them until a bunch of somebodies said good things.

If I had your set of speakers and wanted an upgrade I would start with this:
http://cgi.ebay.com/INFINITY-BETA-50-BLACK-ONLY-499-AUTHORIZED-SELLER_W0QQitemZ130083382547QQihZ003QQcategoryZ61376QQcmdZViewItem
That turns it into great 2 channel stereo and not so great 7.1. That upgrade would be followed up with a matching center as funds allowed. I'm really hesitant to spend money on an upgrade that needs upgrading.

Do a search on all these speakers in this forum and see who's who.:)

I just glanced and it said 1 item per package. I would read everything and see what they say about warranty too.

The list price says 599 so I am assuming it is a paired set also. Just on sale? The other ones as well for 500 on amazon said quantity 1. I should call and make sure and ask or look on the web site for warranty info. Would a center speaker like this go good with it?

No. Look for a Beta center to match the Beta left and right. It's important to match those three. I know that The Audio Video Source and the Harman Audio eBay store give full warranties on this stuff. Also keep in mind that this is stuff that I know and like. You should do a few searches for other opinions and find someplace to hear different speakers before you buy.;)

me86,

Is there a local store in your area with a good return policy? If not try Crutchfield. I have a set of ~$500 Polks that crank out all the sound I need. It is very hard to compare, beyond specifications, what speakers may sound like in your room.
