avr-4806 auto setup problem

I have a problem with my new receiver and I’m wondering if anyone has had a similar problem or knows a solution. It’s an avr-4806s that I set up all inputs and was ready to auto calibrate. I go into setup and select auto setup/room eq. it thinks for a second or two while it displays the wait command. I hear what I think is power relays opening and the playing source cuts out. The system will detect if a mic is plugged in or not but once I select extra setup or start it kicks my up to the parent menu and I hear the relays trip and the previous source starts playing.

I called Denon’s tech support and they thought it might be a bad mike so I got another from my dealer (Saturday Audio in Chicago who are great) and the same thing happened. So I talked to the Denon rep at Saturday and we did about 15 minutes of trouble shooting and he says the unit sounds bad and they will replace it.

Yesterday the replacement comes in and I get the exact same behavior. WTF. I believe the probability of two units having the exact same problem is remote so I am beginning to wonder if I am the problem. Anyone have a similar issue of can think of something to try. I have done countless resets and everything else on the unit is straight forward. I had no problems with assigning the digital inputs, renaming inputs or any other aspect of driving the receiver.

What button on the remote are you using to select 'START'?

With the 3805 you don't press the 'ENTER' button(in the center) , If you do it takes you back to the parent screen. You need to highlight the 'START' and press the 'left arrow button'(CURSOR < ) to initiate the the auto setup as shown in the attachment.

I just checked the 4806 manual and it also operates this way. Your problem may be something as simple as this.

cheers:)

thanks a bunch. that was it.

i dont feel too much of an idiot since both denon tech support and the sales rep failed to point that out.

When I picked up a new 3806 last week I asked the sales rep about setting levels and he made a point of telling me about using the <- instead of "enter" sometimes. I have not set it up yet, but I am sure I would be scratching my head and thinking nasty thoughts at Denon had this not been brought to me attention. It's quite supprising tech support did not pick on this as I would think it would be a common misunderstanding.
