AVP 10 is in Route to Dealer.

My dealer has informed me that my Marantz AVP 10 is in route to his store in Minneapolis.

I have ordered a 19" rack mount for it from B & H photo. I guess if the AVP is good enough for Gene it is good enough for me.

So I will report further when is installed and set up.

I have found a way to keep the AVP 7706 quiet. This buzz issue is very much heat related. If you keep the case stone cold with two fans positioned just right, and on full blast, the unit stays quiet, and there is not a sound audible in any listening position with no signal into the unit.

The mechanical chase temp is 73 almost constantly, as this house has very good temperature control. My current cooling keeps the case 77 to 78 F. Without the fans the case temperature rises to 95 to 98 F.

I have to think that this issue is likely caused by a bad electrolytic cap. The video below I think sheds some light on the issue and some premature failures other members have endured.

My 7706 is not ethically saleable, so I will move it to the family room system and see what happens.

Neither myself or the dealer think it worthwhile sending it for service as a service center won't likely have the patience to reproduce the fault.

This is where a can of freeze spray can come in handy. If you can replicate the issue on a test bench, judicious use of freeze spray can isolate a component that fails under heat. Problem is that these units are so packed with multiple circuit boards that even disassembly and testing can be a real chore. Hopefully the noise level is low enough that it won't be an issue in the family room.

Most people would still send it in for Warranty repair. Especially if you can isolate the cause and can talk to the repair tech. I think it’s worth a shot.

Then hopefully after the warranty service, it will be all good and you can sell it.

I have not opened the unit up so as not to void the warranty.

However, this is a really irritating fault as it generally takes a few hours to show up, and once corrected takes a significant length of time to show up again.

So, I doubt the tech would have the patience to wait for it to show up. Then if he was not certain wait for it to show up again. I can just see this would be a very arduous and troublesome fault to find and correct.

I think the tech would say, nothing to see here and move on.

Offer still stands to send my way for testing :) Best of luck with the AV10. I think that will be an amazing unit and we look forward to hearing how it works for you.

Why didn't you buy the rack mount from your dealer? Your area has at least one distributor that sells these and he can buy from nationwide companies, or Middle Atlantic, Atlas, etc.

I just e-mailed the rep, to ask about warranty service- let me know if you're interested.
