Avia II Guide to Home Theater

I purchased Avia II Guide to Home Theater. Of all the reviews that I have read, nine out of ten reviews have been unfavorable. Is this disk worth keeping or should I return it and find another? It is not open. The largest complaint is the lack of instructions during the set up process, or not enough information or explanation.

Does anyone know of a link which explains the different test patterns in more detail and a further explanation.

Thanks for all of your help in advance.

Is it still on DVD or is it BD/HD-DVD ? I'm curious because this is supposed to be optimized for HD content....?

Setup Disc

The origional Avia had a better menu and was easier to use than it main competitor, Digital Video Essentials.

It looks like a new version of DVE is comming out, but not until March:

Either setup disc is a good tool for calibrating your receiver and display settings. You might consider keeping Avia II so you can calibrate your display in time for the Super Bowl.

Just bought it earlier this week. It'll get the job done, but is vague and assumes were all starting from scratch.

I prefer to just use my spl meter and the test tones in my Emo prepro.

I have used the video calibration more than the audio. I think the tools are useful and worth having.

Ease of navigation is not AVIA's forte.
