Available Speaker Connectors on Receiver

Hi,

I have a Panasonic PA1050 home theater system with wireless subwoofer, center speaker, front speakers (2) and wireless surround speakers (2). The wireless receiver stopped working so I am trying to connect the surround speakers_wired_ to the receiver. But it only has 3 connectors for center speaker and the 2 front speaker. Is there any way to add a wire speaker connector, some kind of splitter that would split or share the signal of the other wires? Any other ideas?

Thanks.

Welcome to the forum!

You said "PA1050", but is it actually a SC-PT1050 system? I'm trying to look up information for you, but I couldn't find a Panasonic system with "PA1050" in the model number.

Sorry, my bad. I mixed it up. You are right, it is SC-PT1050 (per the manual). On the unit itself it says SA-PT1050. I already called customer support twice but they are pretty much worthless.

Thanks for your reply.

Hi, and sorry for the delay - I was eating dinner.

I don't recommend trying to wire the surround speakers into the terminals for the other speakers. Before we get into that, though, I'd like to see if we can get your wireless working again.

Have you tried to diagnose the issues with the wireless, such as looking at the Troubleshooting section on page 38 of the owner's manual? We might be able to get that up and working again, which would be the best solution.

Yeah, I did. I checked the manual, replaced the wires, completely turned off my wireless router (which is and has been located far enough away) and called customer support twice today. They did some resets, which did not fix it. I got the unit when I redeemed reward points from my old company last winter. It is a refurbished unit.

The wireless transmitter has been causing me many headaches as it caused the wifi in the house to stop working and I was already thinking then how I could wire the suround speakers into the receiver.

Thanks for your assistance.

Hopefully some others will chime in here. When you wire two speakers to one terminal, it changes the impedance that the amplifier inside the receiver experiences. There's a difference between wiring them in series or in parallel, too. One way might be okay, but it's better to get that from someone more expert at it than me.

For those willing to help out, the PDF version of the owner's manual is located here for reference.

If it were me, I would not wire them up that way. However, if you just want sound behind you, you can do it. What I want others here to chime in on is the likelihood (if any) that you'd damage your system by doing it.

I don't know if it will work with this or not but I had a Sony wireless system once that had an issue with the wireless surround speakers. I zip tied the two transmitters together and it worked great. Heck, it still works great, it's just at a friends house now.

I faced the 2 transmitters, zip tied them behind the AVR and ran wires to the surrounds.

Wiring in series increases resistance and should not damage the receiver but will lower perceived output by about 1/2. Wiring in parallel will halve the resistance and may damage the receiver. It will play louder until something starts smoking.

The surrounds have their own power supply - necessary in any wireless speaker. It would have to be dismantled and the wireless receiver and power unit disabled - then reconnect the speakers to the fronts. I don't think this is something that should be taken up by a novice.

Cool - I was thinking correctly. I wasn't confident enough to state that, though. Thanks!
