AV123 X-Series vs Jamo Concert E Series Opinions

I recently purchased a Denon 3806 receiver on sale because the store was going out of business and am planning on pairing it with some speakers.

I have heard from a lot of people that the x-series from av123.com is great and have been looking at that quiet a bit, will most likely be auditioning the x-ls/x-cs at home very soon, might possibly even wait for the Towers to be released before buying.

While I have been looking at the x-series I have been visiting my folks at home and my dad is a huge Jamo fan, he got me to sit down and listen to the E-series and has me looking at the Jamo E 7 series since he can get them for me at a good discount (close to the same price as the x-series set up I would get).

I wont be able to audition the Jamo's at home if I get them through my dad and was wondering if anyone had any experience with the two systems and could give me advice.

Thanks,

Andrew

I don't have anything to contribute on the Jamo end. However, the X-LS products are quite good. Built like tanks. Solid. Plus, the newer "EX" model is in the works which will provide for a revision to the tweeter and crossover. Some of us want a little more detail for music purposes.

The Jamo on the other end, would have to be accepted "as-is". You'd have to love the sound if you wanted to keep them long term. The Onix offers lots of upgrade paths - Ninja crossovers, new cabinet damping materials, etc. The future is nearly endless.

Were you looking to use the system mainly for music or movies?

The system will be about 50/50 movies and music, I have a huge collection of both.

In home audition

Maybe you could borrow a pair of Jammo's from your dad and do an in home audition vs. the X-LS. AV123.com is risk free on their bookshelf speakers so you will be out nothing if you decide to send them back.

Sorry,

but I must ask? If you spend big money for a top notch receiver then I'd aim for higher end speakers(ie: rockets)! I had my speaker already before I purchased my 3805 and now looking to upgrade! IMO your receiver shouldn't cost more then your speakers. I not saying the av123's xl's speakers aren't nice or for that reason the Jamo's but the receiver should be around 30% of the cost of your speakers.:)

JcPanny: the problem is I live in IA and my dad lives in texas (im going to college) also my dad has the highest end Jamos while I will be getting something much farther down the scale.

Billy P: like I said I got a deal 500 for a 3806 is something I couldnt pass up.

When you head over to the store, give the Jamo's the knock on the side test...
Do they sound like solid wood? or do they give back a resonance type sound..

I was under the opinion that the X-series will more then likely have better construction. Not to knock the Jamo's, but personally I didn't care much for them upon auditioning them against some comparable other in store brands.

I am no expert on either brand... I mean look at it this way...

I bought paradigm, so what the hell do I know...
