Thanks man, I think I was the one who told him about AV123 in the first place. I had good luck with them about 2 years ago but it looks like there may be issues going on right now so I just want us to help him out.
Okay Dawg, didn't realize it was a case of buyers remorse. AV123s are good speakers ,I guess OP is just looking for reassurance. Thanks for your feedback!

Kyle from AV123 called me today to confirm my order. He told me that despite the info that was on their website when I placed my order, I should expect shipment during the 2nd or 3rd week of January. Their website stated that the components were in stock.

He also told me that they would be collecting the payment immediately; even though I wouldn't receive the speakers for 6+ weeks.

A told Kyle that I want to use Saia Motor Freight for the delivery (I have an account with SAIA that provides a substantial discount from list price). He told me that he would need to get permission from upper management to use a carrier other than Yellow Freight. He could not provide an explanation as to their policy to use only Yellow Freight.

I asked Kyle what would happen if AV123 is unable to ship per his timeline. He said that, perhaps, they would hive me a gift certificate applicable towards a future order. Why not the current order, I asked. He replied "Company policy".

So, I have approx 6 weeks to perform more DD. I put out a request on Tweak to demo the 850 system. We'll see.

As to the responses posted today it's interesting that nobody answered my question:

"Do you not find the falling price to be a valid basis for concern? AV123 is now charging less than half of their normal selling price for this Rocket system. And, we're not talking about a discontinued product or B stock."

Thanks,

Dave

I find the price drop to be a valid basis for concern and I figured your post would end with a "I then told them to cancel my order".

it's a valid concern. cancel your order.

i don't agree with taking cash for unavailable products, and it looks like you don't too.

If it was me I would cancel my order. I couldn't be that worried about such a large purchase with such a wait time. Seriously I'm not trying to be a jerk or fictitious. There are many companies you could order from right now that would match or exceed the Rockets for the price (might not look as pretty) and you could have them in your room this week.

For example:

Revel Concerta F12 based system
Paradigm Studio 40's
SVS MTS
B&W 600 series
etc

I got a warm fuzzy feeling in my tummy when you said Paradigm Studio 40's. Man, I loved them when I had them.

Hi Dave...

If you'd like to cancel - no worries sir... We have many items (everything except Rocket) in stock... :)

We clearly told everyone that our Rockets were on back order - we are providing some great prices - and given the wait - we feel that these prices justify the wait...

The pricing for B Stock is always very aggressive during Christmas... I have been doing this for 10 years - and every year we are aggressive at this time... We have also worked hard with our factories to give us the best pricing possible... In the case of Rockets - we advance pay getting an extra 10% off the FOB... Seems like a good thing to me - but YMMV... :)

Business is good - we are up 16% for the year - but our margins are down a bit (I also explained why on our forums)...

Let you rep know what you want to do... December's containers are sold out - and January's are roughly 35% sold out too...

Enjoy your holidays...

All the best...

Interesting post...

Dollar for dollar at $1695 for the system - RS-850 / RSC200 / RS450 - I would be hard pressed to find something that really meets or exceeds the performance of the Rockets at this number... (apologies for the hyperbole)...

Now then - for 3x the price... I would certainly include the Revels as noted...

Happy Holidays...

I thought I did. They have been running such discounting programs on the rockets (and other speakers) for a long time now. It might be that they were caught on their forcasts and have more Rockets to sell at the discounted price than they anticipated.

I too would cancell the order. There is no good reason to charge you now for something that arrives in 6 weeks. If you still want to listen to them, tell their customer support to email you when they have Rockets in stock for immediate delivery.

Mark,

Are these Rockets B-stock? I think the OP is under the impression they are not?

Having listened to a lot of systems myself. I would have to agree.

Other then the deal at OZ Home Theater on the 6.1 Swan Diva. I can't think of many others.

Hello Mr. Schifter
It maybe but the OP has made it very clear he is uneasy prepaying for a product and then waiting. I just offered alternatives in the price range. He can either get a great deal and wait or pay a bit extra and have something now. Sound performance is ultimately up to his ears.

Hello Mr. Schifter
They are not B stock. He was referring to a lot of the sale for BF/CM being B-Stock. The Rocket deal is 100% gorgeous A-Stock :)

Hi Dave,

I think you should try to get a audition that is local to you and get a feel for the sound and make a decision if you feel they are white van equivalent speaker. If you think that they are white van cancel the order. The other option that you have is to take the risk and return the speakers but it is most likely going to set you back the shipping for the speakers. Some of the other Internet Direct Speaker Companies to try and research are:

Swan / Dana
Axiom Audio
Aperion Audio
ACI Audio
Ascend Acoustics

All of the companies listed have good products (sorry could not post the website links since I have never posted anything before). I have only listened to Axiom Audio M60 with their 350 subwoofer and they did not agree with me due to ear fatigue in my family room. I had them in my house for 20+ days and had to return them back to Axiom on my dime and ended up with Rocket 850 setup with Ref1's as surrounds. For me the best solution is do in home demo/audition for 30 days, with the down side being that if you do not like the sound/build quality you have to eat the shipping cost.

PS: I am going to post the link to the thread on Tweak City Audio/Audiocircle to see if there are any Atlanta folks willing to open up their homes for you to demo/audition
Don't forget to add some Ushers to the list. While not an ID brand, there are some great values in these speakers - along with great sound.

Couldn't they have come up with a better name...

I mean, come'on A V 1 2 3? Seriously?

"Hey man nice speakers, what are they?!"
"AV123s... these are 'Rockets'"
"Oh...ugh...cool..."

I own all kinds of stuff with dumb names, but I draw the line at A V 1 2 3. 1000 dollar speakers have interesting names, not something you'd see at a dollar store. It's like calling your new soda... SODA12oz ... No you call it NOS or COCAINE or RED BULL ... Mountain Dew Code Red is the best drink eva, but if they called it FLATLANDS DRY with a Rose you would be like "no way" I'm not eating that... so what I'm saying is

AV123?!#$@!#$@! SERIOUSLY%&@#$%@#$@?

**** I gotta stop taking pills

What's in a name? Certainly, there are many names that I've often had to scratch me head over.

SVS? Huh? Oh, but their subs are great and nicely made. Not such a bad name. SV Sound.

Acoustech? Screams "white van" to me. However, they do make some pretty good stuff for not too much money. Their sub is pretty popular for just a bit over $200.

AV123? It's just the name of the manufacturer / distributor. The actual "name" of the Rockets are Onix for the brand. Rocket is the model name ... along with an associated model number. The "X" series? Used to have the Onix name tags, now ... that has kind of separated from the "X" line. Still not bad. "Onix" isn't such a bad name at all. Certainly, up there with the best of them.
