AV Reciever Resolution Switching

Hi,

I have a Philips 200WS8FS LCD PC screen with a resolution of 1680 x 1050 and I am looking at buying an Onkyo HT-R505 AV reciever and I was wondering, if I used a SCART to S-Video converter from my DVD player/Freeview reciever to the S-Video input of the reciever and connected the reciever to the VGA input of my monitor using an S-Video to VGA adaptor, would the reciever display the content at 1650 x 1050 or would it still be at the native resolution?

Alright, this reciever has HDMI, composite and component inputs and outputs, what could I use that would allow it to be scaled to 1680 x 1050?

Remember that I only have a SCART connections on the back of my Freeview reciever, in Europe this is the dominant connector. I have composite on the back of my DVD though, although its hardly worth using them as I have lots of composite to SCART adaptors laying around.

If your LCD screen has SCART inputs, why not just hook it up direct and forget about running the video through the receiver?

In any case, as m_vanmeter says, if you convert between different things, you will get the resolution of the least capable thing. Keep that in mind when you decide what conversions you want to do, and what you want to avoid.

The screen does not have SCART inputs

What I meant was that my freeview reciever and dvd player have SCART outputs, my LCD PC screen only has DVI or VGA.
