I'm new to Auro 3d and thinking of upgrading to a receiver that can decode Auro 3D, like the Denon X4700H.

My question is this.. Do you need a special 4k player that support and can transmit the Auro 3D signal to the receiver? I know with Dolby Atmos, you specifically needed the player to support Atmos. What about Auro 3D? I can't find any players that says specifically it supports Auro 3D.

Thanks in advance!!

I think Auro D is dead. Yes, you need a receiver or pre/pro that supports it. I have played with it, but it is not nearly as good as the Dolby Atmos system. The other issue, there is virtually no software. To do it properly you need the center ceiling "Voice of God" speaker. If you do Auro D you still need to cater to Atmos. That means a double ceiling set up.

My advice is to give Auro D a wide berth and forget it ever existed, because effectively now, it doesn't.

Any 4K Player can BITSTREAM the Auro3D signal to the AVR.

But good luck finding any Auro3D contents (at least in the US).

I think most people who like Auro3D just use the Auro3D Upmixer DSP to upmix their 2Ch music to get that surround effect.

I use auro-matic the auro 3d upmixer to upmix 2 channel music. Of all the multichannel upmixers it sounds best to me. The Front highs just over the main L&R then its use of the center plus surrounds justs presents a wonderful, full, wall of sound. It also sums bass from each channel and yields a more robust bass from the subs. There are many of us on these forums that use it in that manner.

I use the Auro 3D upmixer for 2 channel. Also, although there is paucity of HT content for Auro, there are several music discs still recorded in Auro, mostly by PureAudio and 2L
