Good morning, while running auto speaker set up and calibration it sets my front speakers to -2db and my center to -1db, doesnt that seem way to low? I know I can manually raise them but why is it so low? I have the onkyo 607 with primus 162 and 350 center.thanks for the advice?

The auto setup routines set the speaker levels so that a specific setting on the master volume control corresponds to a specific reference output level (I think that Audyssey uses 75 dB as a reference level). Your 607 master volume settings are different than I expected, at least if I read the manual correctly, in that they go from Min, then 1 to 79, then Max. I'm used to receivers these days that use dB values. For those, a "0 dB" setting on the master volume corresponds to reference level.

Anyway, I wouldn't be concerned about the setting applied to the speaker gains. A great way to check that setting is by using an SPL meter if you have one. You can run the built-in test tones in the 607 and verify that all speakers play at the same level at your listening position. That's a good way to get confidence in the setup routine.

I've never used Audyssey, but my last two receivers have had Pioneer's MCACC system that has always gotten the speaker levels set correctly.

That sounds reasonably normal to me. How far away is the seating position from the front speakers?

the seating distance is about 10 ft, also should the fronts and the center be the same level? and if i was to go buy a sound meter what output level am I looking for? and am I using the test tone to set the levels?thanks

I'm about 10ft away as well, and my Denon 1911 sets my mains at -1.5 for left and right and -3.00 for center.

So that sounds about right. Iwould make sure the crossover points are set correctly though. 80hz would be good for your speakers.

anamorphic96 thanks for the response, did you check with a meter after the calibration? I thought it seemed low but I am fairly new to this so I really have no idea whats right or wrong.

also,on my Onkyo 876,audyssey sets the center different from the mains and the L & R are set diff too,my center is sitting 30" higher then my mains and pointed a little down at an angle to the listening area,

and audyssey sets my left main higher than my R main(I assume from the different acoustics of my HT room),

what you are seeing is all normal, but like was said, you can check it with a RS meter,

I let audyssey do the basic setup then I go in and change many of the settings to what I like and what I think sounds good to my sources and listening preferences.

it's been said here that audyssey is just a starting point.

I pulled a meter once with my old receiver and new one. They both provided consistent numbers. Audyssey is actually really good with setting levels. The thing most people don't understand and get hung up on is setting the crossover points and distance settings. Especially the subwoofer.

Here is another good link to info on Audyssey.

Another thing to keep in mind is center channels tend to be a little more efficient with the extras driver and larger cabinet. So they will sometimes be set a little lower as they don't need as much power.
