This is similar to another current thread I'm in with @bradymartin. I suspect bass bloat from the mains. Mine are 20" away from the wall and they get boomy in direct mode. His are kinda crammed in there.
Yep. I've hit that thread too. Seems you're doing fine, so I'm not going confuse things lol. I agree with bass bloat and your recommendation about getting used to real linear bass. It IS different and if you're only used to fart boxes it can take awhile to adjust.
For this OP, I'm not sure. As with any thread like this, there is SO much subjectivity. It's hard to decipher sometimes.

I just notice the OP has the SR5010 not the 6010. In my experience with 2 D&M units that have XT and 1 with XT32 subEQHT, the latter is significantly more effective, room mode or not.

XT definitely can use some help.

Hey @Loren Camply, I have a thought that would keep everything on the same space, but gives you a little wiggle room.

Could you scooch the left speaker over a few more inches to the left? Like even with the banister. Slide everything to the left as far as you can, then swap the right speaker with the subwoofer. Or move the sub beside the left speaker and scoot the tv to the right?

One issue I see could be that it puts your right speaker too much in the corner. That's why I'm asking if you can slide everything to the left. It's not much, but gives you a couple more options for sub placement while staying in the same space.

OK,

So I got home and busted out some Costco yellow towels. I plugged both the ports on the S60 towers. I ran Audyssey for a quick 3 point to see if it worked. Checked the settings and wam the deep valley was gone. oh yes. So I ran Audyssey again for the 6 point test. Freaking fridge kicked on in the middle of the test. so the left speaker is dipped hard on the lower end but comes up quick @ the 80hz mark. see attached

Audyssey set the speakers to small and crossover @ 60 with the towels in. I played some U2 is was nice and clean no boomy bass. Did the GoT battle for black water and oh yeah it's sweeter than it was.

Thanks for the feed back. As I mentioned, Audyssey XT needs help but can still do quite well if you spend time playing around with other things. When I had the XT version, I played with the subwoofer's adjustment knobs for a long time and eventually got some decent results. With XT32 SubEQHT, that's wasn't necessary, not in my room anyway.

Just an update,

My bedroom HT has the same Marantz SR5010 with Polk Signature S20 book shelf speakers and a HSU STF-2 sub.

I did the same yesterday by plugging the ports and running Audyssey in the bedroom. Came out very nice. A lot smoother than before. Looks like the ported speakers and Audyssey don't get along well.
