I am getting ready to hook my amp for my front speakers. So I will be going from my AVR powering all my speakers to an external amp for my Front Left and Right speakers, and power my cener and rears with my AVR......Do I need to re-run my audessey calibration on my Onkyo AVR?

Thanks

Jeff

You can use an SPL meter instead, unless you use Dynamic EQ (which I don't think your receiver has). If you use DEQ you'll need to re-run Audyssey because Audyssey has to know how loud it is at a given level on the receiver (ie 75 dB SPL at -15 dB on the receiver) or the volume compensation curves will be off.

The "official" response is Yes, however, a couple of us 805 owners do wonder if it's necessary. I think it was Onkyo's instructions that said that even if you just change the impedance setting, should you rerun calibration. I was pretty skeptical, but people seem to follow those instructions anyways in such case. So, with a new amp, I suppose you "should". I bet the differences will be subtle at best, but then again you never know.

Might as well, just to be sure. If you can't be bothered, I wouldn't sweat it too much. But, again, the official response is "yes".

Ok - The amp is up and running, listened for a while and decided to re-run the calibrations. I would say it did improve the over all listening experience and room balance. I am looking foward to many hours of enjoying my system with a little more oomph. So far I have cranked some the Rush Live DVD, it is very impressive. I am going to try the Eagles DVD later and see how this amp can make everything come together nicely. I am looking forward to my next movie to see how that shakes out. Thanks to all who voice opinions on amps and setup and 12V triggers, etc..... Much appreciated.

Thanks

Jeff
