AudioSource EQ-ONE Series II EQ vs YPAO on RN-803

Hello — I have some Walsh 4 Speakers that were recently refurbished with the Walsh 3000 Drivers (I inherited these by way of my Grandfather, whose brother was Lincoln Walsh, who essentially invented the speakers) and I’m wondering what people think about using the Yamaha RN-803’s built-in YPAO EQ versus manually obtaining a single-measurement flat response using the AudioSource EQ-ONE Series II EQ. I don’t have a ton of money, so the receiver I have reflects my budget, rather than what “should” go with speakers of this calibre. I would like to imagine that advances in technology are such that the version of YPAO that the RN-803 has is superior to what could be achieved with the AudioSource EQ (assuming I use the mic that came with the RN-803 with both); however, it seems like the AudioSource EQ is a pretty nice component and, being a separate device, might allow for more precise tweaking. What do people here think?

Many thanks to any of you who can take the time to respond to me, recognizing that I’m quite a novice in audio engineering.

I remember that the Walsh driver was a pretty neutral speaker. It is an omnidirectional radiator though, so positioning takes extra special care.

Eq of all types are inclined to be quality spoilers. I have always regarded the Walsh driver as a remarkable achievement. It is too bad they have always been a niche product.

Thanks, so I take it you would avoid doing this altogether?

Does the R-N803 allow for such an external graphic eq?

Well, I’m not totally sure, but the AudioSource is hooked into Line1 IN and Line 1 OUT, and it does register the EQ of whatever is playing on the speakers, even though the source of music is not coming from Line 1 (coming from Airplay, CD, or Tape). Does that suggest it would work to adjust EQ, as well?

I haven’t messed around with manipulating the EQ manually, yet.

I looked at the manual briefly, it does appear to have a tape loop (was thinking that unit had hdmi and wouldn't have such). I'd think it should be able to provide eq and I'd try all three modes....without any eq, with manual eq via your graphic eq, and also try the YPAO and see if you have a particular preference....
