Honda's automatics basicly suck. They cant hold any kind of power, so mine are always manual. Shifting makes it more fun though, and I think im kinda quick at it :D For proof see link below

That was a slow run, but you can hear my shifting better in it.
Here is a lil faster of a run (still only a 12.7 though)

I very rarely missed a gear, but my last street race of the year was against a Vette who literaly missed EVERY gear. I was like what the hell, I paid more attention to him than my car. I was looking over at him and just waited for my shift light to come on. Most V8 cars work better with a built auto though.

That reminds me, I also need a short shifter. Those are some quick shifts.

This thread is hopeless. :D

Those arent all that fast for me. I was lifting for my shifts instead of powershifting because I didnt have a limiter at the time. DONT get a short shifter, all they do is destroy syncros. I always ran a stock integra shifter (I liked the dual bend better) In the videos I had a short shifter, and hated it. Ive actually broken more than 1 shifter, and LOTS of trannys :D

My Syncros are already shot. How is it that they destroy tranny's? Something like that would be well known.

I guess I've been away from this stuff for too long, but I don't understand what is meant by a 'short' shifter. Is that just a shifter that has a very short throw?

Its easy, youre moving the forks faster than the syncros can handle. Thats if you can really shift fast. If you get in a car with me and it has a short shifter, I dont care if its brand new youll hear every gear grind into place, because the syncros didnt have time to match the gear speeds. Now with a longer throw shifter, they have the time. I have blown up syncros, bent shift forks, sheared gears, split casings all with a short shifter. Ive put more power through a rougher clutch slicks and a stock shifter and never had 1 problem.

Bingo, its just less distance to move the shifter between gears, basicly a gimic. It works, but you dont need it if you know how to shift. Also I guess a good choice is always a dog box :D

So what *IS* the best way to shift??

I just shift around 2.8K-3K if I'm on fuel economy mode...but I'll shift around 4.5K-5K on the lower 3 gears if I'm feeling frisky :D

'course I only have a Mazda three without anything done to it :)

But getting back to the question, what's the BEST way to shift then? And pls don't get TOO technical!! Or if you do start going into 'power-bands' and what nots, explain it all coz I are teh n00b :)

i don't shift. I haven't had a manual transmission car in years. I find that a manual transmission stock civic is easily bested by my automatic 2.4 liter engine car.

now get out of my thread, and start your own honda thread. :)

The best was to shift is quickly. I shift like everyone else, just faster than most. If Im racing and Im not using the nitrous, Ill power shift. Power shifting is when you dont take youre foot off the gas, you just punch the cutch and go. BTW I shifted my honda at 9k when I felt "frisky"

Sean
P.S. I think Ive proven my point (that Im THE audioholics Honda master) if you dont agree start a new thread.

I, for one, will never catch up with Sheep (Sheep Kabob, Bubba Black Sheep, Civic Modding Sheep, Sheep faster than a Civic Sheep;) ). I once had to drive a less than an inch apart from a Ford driving teenage who'd been showing off with daddy's little car. You should see the girl's face on the passenger side in that car. Priceless :D . Scared all of them (3 dudes one girl). I had to stop since my lady was kind of upset with me dragging them so close to them..:p . Btw, it was my 02 civic, now i still have a civic (will post a pic for u Sheep;) ). No upgrades, just stock engines, i just happen to have more guts and a bit of road rage style on the darker side of me:eek: .

My title should NOT be: Civic Stock Engine Lover!

It's becoming the Sheep hall of fame, somehow I think he surreptitiously planned this all along so he can choose his title. Sneaky Canadians, give them an inch, they'll take your arm. This madness must stop.;)
