Audio with HDMI DVD

I'm looking at getting a new DVD player with HDMI output to route to my plasma monitor (for video) and receiver (for audio). Since HDMI carries both audio and video signal, how do I get the audio to the receiver? Will the optical output from the DVD player carry the same audio signal as the HDMI cable so just route optical from DVD to the receiver? Any other advice on setting this up?

Yes, if your receiver doesn't have HDMI on it, then use optical or coaxial digital connections from the DVD player to your receiver. All three (HDMI/optical/coax) carry the same digital information.
