I have the Denon avr-X3700 and 2019 Nivida Shield Pro connected by HDMI.
Both units can produce all dobly formats.
Would you turn off the audio formats in the shield and let the receiver control the audio formats output?
Would there be audio output mismatch using both devices?

I'd probably just set the source to bitstream and let my avr handle the codecs....

Set the Nvidia Shield Pro’s audio output to automatic so that it will not convert, but rather pass any incoming audio codec to the Denon for processing. Depending on the audio stream, you can change the Denon’s sound modes to achieve the desired processing.

Are you saying that in the advance sound settings, Dolby audio processing to on or off ?
Then under select formats to default(auto)

There should be a Surround Sound setting. Set it at Auto. This will allow bitstream/passthrough of the audio to the Denon for processing. The other settings are for limiting output to devices that do or do not support some codecs. The Denon supports and can process all of them.
