Hello everybody,

I am writing this as I have just bought a used but very good condition Pioneer VSX521 and I am having a bit of an issue with audio delay. I have all HDMI components and have AMP settings for audio output from HDMI signal inputs. When I start up the receiver from standby and play something from my Chromecast or Xbox the receiver immediately outputs the video but takes anywhere from 30 sec-1 min. To output the corresponding audio. Once audio is output I have no issues regarding lip sync or audio delay of any kind. I am wondering if it could be related to the HDMI cable I have from the receiver to the TV or whether maybe the issue is with the Chromecast or the receiver itself. I have reset the receiver and still the audio handshake persists. Anybody have any insight into this or related issues and fixes? I previously had the Denon AVR591 and did not have these issues. Once the audio is established it is excellent but if I switch the receiver off/on or switch the inputs the problem starts over as the receiver "searches" for the proper decoding format. Please let me know of anyone else has had this and whether or not it is an issue with the unit/model itself. Maybe this model doesn't like to play nice with the other devices?

Sincerely,

There are really only two possibilities. The first and most likely is that the HDMI board is on the way out and will progress to total failure.

The second possibility is that, that budget receiver makes slow audio HDCP code handshakes. I have read a few reviews, and no one commented on slow audio handshakes
