New to the site and need some help with new vs. old?
I’ve got a Yamaha DSP-A1000 that I’ve had a few years and am looking at adding a Sony BDP-S550 Blue Ray player. The question is simply what is the best way to connect the Audio between these two units to get the best sound for movies? Any settings I need to change on the Yamaha?
I know the best answere would be to replace the 1000 with a newer unit but just couldn’t afford both now. Also the units are located 15 feet apart.
Any ideas?

Welcome to the forum! You might get more responses now that the election is over. :)

That receiver, as far as I can tell, doesn't have any digital inputs or multi-channel analog inputs. Your choice is limited to one of the two-channel analog inputs. So, you would connect them using a cable with two RCA connectors on each end. You can run matrixed surround sound (such as Dolby Pro-Logic), but I think that's the best that you're going to get from that receiver.

Are you buying the Blu-ray player for the higher resolution video? The higher quality audio will, at least for now, be lost on that receiver. I only mention this because you could save your money for now and wait if you can't take advantage of the video. Blu-ray players should continue to get better and cheaper.

gee whiz, I get one of these things and everyone comes cropping out of the woodwork with one :D :D

Yep. 2 Channel RCA Analog; no other way on the A1000.
No settings required on the Yamaha. Just select the input.
DSP mode; use at own risk :D

Thanks Guys,

I am looking at the Blue-Ray for the video, and not being able to upgrade the Yamaha $$$$ (maybe in a few months), I was just looking for the best connections to get me by for now.

Your answers will work for now and simple to do, so I hope to be enjoying a great video, I'll just have to turn the hearing aids up a little more.:)

Again THANKS for your help.....
